Subject: RE: go ahead - call me STUPID! I am supposed to be at a CONCERT right NOW!I was once talking to a neighbor who said she was taking her kids to the White Sox game that night. I thought that sounded odd, as I was just watching the game live on TV five minutes before. She assumed it was a night game, not a day game, and we both felt kind of bad when I showed her the sports section with the times.
It convinced me there are two kinds of people in this world. People who have done something really, unexcusably stupid such as missing a concert or a baseball game and people under a year old. It seems to me that after a year, we should learn enough to avoid making really dumb mistakes, yet we all manage to make those mistakes.
I once sent a colleague to a three day conference on the wrong three days. Shame on her for not getting the details but double shame on me for not reading more closely. I once drove into work on a holiday. I once left my parents at the airport after an international flight because I messed up writing down the flight number.
I have missed many, many appointments because when I made them, they were in the future. With no warning whatsoever other than subtle movements in time, those appointments move to the present, or even the past. It costs me money or respect with friends, but I am incapable of keeping a calendar in my personal life. |
