Subject: RE: 50 K race walkmeepx2 - 2008-08-22 2:06 PM Is there another racing sport where there is a limitation of technique placed on the athlete? It's such an arbitrary restriction, and the restriction itself imposes a limitation of speed, which is contradictory to what a race is about. And as we can see in the slow mo that the "walkers" aren't actually walking, but even if they were, who cares. If another sport comes along to challenge for a spot in the Olympics, I know what event I'd vote to cut. Good point... in basketball, for example, it would be quicker if you could just pick up the d@mn ball and cradle it in one arm, and give the defenders the stiff arm, as you sprint down the court towards the hoop. Another example of a restriction that imposes a limitation of speed. Tut, tut. Or in soccer? What's up with soccer? No hands?? It would be so much easier (and faster) if you could also pick up the ball and run with it. Alas, you can't. And finally, there's boxing. I guarantee you that I could medal, if I was just allowed to give my opponent a nice swift kick in the boys. I hate these arbitrary restrictions on my technique. Otherwise dude, I'd have those eight golds hanging round my neck, guaranteed. |
