Brand New Magnetic BIKE TRAINER + block + DVD - $100 (literally brand new with box) or 2006 kinetic fluid "road machine" bicycle trainer with mat and riser - 150 (has only 50 miles on it) I'm a virgin to this bike trainer thing. Never even knew it exsisted till i got here 2 months ago. I'm mainly looking for noise control. Which one would you purchase?? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a fluid one and I love it and it's really quiet. And you definitely need a riser so the bike sits evenly. So I'd probably go with the fluid one. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I use a 1up USA trainer and love it. It was a little more expensive $300 I think, but it works perfectly. This trainer is heavy duty and very well built. THe bike drive train makes more noise than the trainer. If money was no object I would get the computrainer. I am going to try a set of rollers this winter to break things up a little bit.

![]() ![]() | ![]() CycleOps Fluid II. It's relatively quiet. Initial set up can be a bit aggravating but after that it's smooth sailing. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Depends on how much money you want to spend. Nothing wrong with the magnetic one if you only want to drop $100, it will do just fine. Having said that, I recently upgraded my mag trainer with This one and really like it. The fluid does work better than the mag as you increase speed. And this one comes with a Spinervals DVD with 3 30 minute workouts, but you'd need to spring for a riser block if you don't have one. Edited by ColdRingo6 2008-09-05 8:25 AM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Not knowing the brand of the magnetic trainer, I'd say get the Road Machine. Fluid trainers are quieter and generally have a bigger flywheel (more inertia = smoother pedal stroke). Kurt Kinetic is a good brand and 50 miles is nothing for a trainer. Is this an Ebay purchase or a local used item? If it's local and used, try to get a ride on it then check for leaks after the ride. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() yea. it's relatively local and used. hence the $150.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Raod machine for sure. Mag and wind trainers do nothing for me, the mags feel funny and inconsistent and wind are just plain noisy. Kurt Kinetic and Cycle Ops are the way to go when it comes to trainers. |

Science Nerd ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Of the two you listed, I would definitely go with the fluid trainer. Like other people have mentioned, they are a lot smoother and have a lot less noise than the magnetic trainers. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ) Kinetic Road Machine Trainer this is what I'm getting for 150. I called the lady and hopefully she will call me back. I think i'm getting a pretty good deal barring no issues with the trainer. |

That is the kit that I bought - the riser ring has several levels and the mat is super-heavy duty - the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine is the best fluid trainer out there IMO; I'm not alone: the following review sold me: http://www.bikesportmichigan.com/reviews/kurt-kinetic.shtml

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Whoa. Change of plans. There may be an 2007 for an upgrade of $50. Sooooo, I could get a 2007 KK fluid for 200. no shipping, no other extras. upgrade? |
![]() ![]() |
Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() There's no difference between the 2006 and 2007 models - if the 2006 only has 50 miles on it, I'd take it and pocket the $50, especially if there are no extras with the 2007 model; the mat and riser block you get with the 2006 are together worth close to $80, so you're that much further ahead because the riser ring, while not a necessity, is really nivce to have and the mat will save your floors from the pools of sweat you will be excreting. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I like my cyclops magneto trainer. It's extremely quiet. I've never used anything else, so can't really compare it to a fluid trainer. Personally, I'd skip both, and buy a trainer with power meter so I could become a watt weinie. When my mag wears out, that's my plan. Nashbar makes one at http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=&subcategory=&brand=&sk... There's a BT member that sells a similar trainer with power cheaper, I think...? |

I use it 2 or 3 times a week and it is quiet, but if I forget to put the mat down and do sprints it pisses off the downstairs neighbour and keeps my son up. As far as magnetic trainers go, it's very good. For the difference in price the OP mentioned, the Kurt Kinetic Road machine is a very good deal. And real watt weenies get a power meter for their bike. I averaged 227W while commuting to work this morning. Why limit yourself to just having watts on the trainer? (Price of course!)

Ummm...no it does not. I called to confirm if it did come with a riser or DVD's, and was told it no longer did....you only get the trainer itself. It's still a great deal, even without the riser or DVD's. Edited by nscrbug 2008-09-05 1:43 PM |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've got the Travel Trac Millenium Fluid trainer with front wheel block bought used off of Craigslist for $60. Very pleased so far. Cycle Ops and KK seem to me to be the most sought after and popular. |

Definitely worth it for 150 total! I love buying used things like this because in a way it is like recycling AND you are saving tons. I love my KK road machine. Very quiet. I can't believe how much I sweat on the trainer even with fans blowing like crazy! I hope she calls you back! Go run over, hand over the cash and run away with it before she changes her mind. |

Yeah, unfortunately, I do not fit the demographic of a triathlete with wads of disposable income to spend on gear. A wattmaster trainer is the cheapest way to get watts. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Re: power meter for the trainer - the Kurt Kinetic happens to make an optional power computer/watt meter for their trainers. For around $30 or so it is a wired unit that you can use to gauge your fitness progress.
