I just got the email about the race... now my stomach hurts.

Who's in? Excited? Nervous? First timers?

I'm bummed that specators won't be allowed at the swim finish this year. There are few enough times for them to see us, now there is one less.

I'm in!! I got the email too and I'm so excited! Laughing

I'm doing the event with Team In Training and I was kind of bummed because the "charity groups" get lumped into the novice division.  So I'll be in the last wave. UGH.  I usually compete in the Athena and/or 30-34 women's group.  I'm not excited about sitting for over an hour until I swim. Oh well.  It looks like the weather says sprinkles.  Hopefully, that will be after the race is over!

Good luck to everyone racing. I'll be there in a TNT jersey but, I'll have "in honor of Mike" and "in honor of Stevie" down the sides of my legs in black sharpie!!

Coming up from Atlanta area and was wondering what the weather and water temp were there now?

Good luck to all racing and volunteering.

will be there.  I will have the initials BT and a spot below it on my calf.  Of course it will probably rub off if we can use wetsuits.  My son may also be racing depending upon his leg.  He will be close to the last group.  I'm in the 40-44 age group.

Results are up, I improved in everything but the swim! Not as much as I wanted, but given the slack training, I'm happy.

Did anyone else think the swim was harder this year? Last year once I hit the turns I was carried through by the current, but this year I either missed it or wasn't swimming as well as I thought. I felt like I swam stronger and spotted much better.

there really wasn't much if any current this year.  the guys on the surf boards and kayaks didn't seem to be moving or having to paddle to stay in place.  I also think that once you hit the point, you started swimming into a small chop created by that wind.  I swallowed more water than I anticipated.  Overall I had a good race with everything faster than 2 years ago except the bike.

That was a fun tri! I haven't ever done the race before but, I live in Wilmington for years and would swim and boat in the ICW and there wasn't much a current "pushing" us.  It definitely made the swim long.

I look forward to next year! Hopefully it won't be as windy!

spot - 2008-09-21 8:29 AM .  the guys on the surf boards and kayaks didn't seem to be moving or having to paddle to stay in place.  .  I swallowed more water than I anticipated.

I can attest to that...I went kayak to kayak for the last 1000 yards due to cramping in both legs...worst swim of the day by anyone I suspect but I kept telling the lifeguards that I drove 7.5 hours from Atlanta and I WAS NOT going to get out of the water.  Took a while to get back on track during the bike but once the legs got better I was able to push on the last 1/3 of the bike (except for the wind) and had an average run for me.  Great race site and wonderful town.  This is a race I would love to do again and maybe I won't finish one place from DFL

Don't forget about the 4 DNFs in men's, over 300 DNSs (I don't know how many are men) 204 DNS men (I'm a dork and figured it out),  and the countless men that did not sign up.

Congrats on sticking it out.

Yea, I agree, the swim did seem pretty tough this year...absolutely no current!

I just wanted to brag on my relay team for a bit. Our swimmer was a first timer in triathlon and open water swimming and did very well. Our runner posted a 15:46 5k!! And I managed to pull out a 32 min bike split. Way to go WildCATs!

Dang!!! Did you have a college cross country runner or something??   I would kill to run sub 20.  Of course, I'm over 40 too, but still.  And that bike is a good time too, particularly with the wind the last 1/2 of the course.

Yes, our runner is actually the cross country running coach at West Johnston High School. The amazing thing is, he warmed up for 9 miles before the race and ran the course again after the race as a cool down!

How did I miss this thread? I would have been cool to meet some of you. It was my first tri and I had a great time but felt really alone. Dang. I will keep my eye out better next time. I will definitely do this one again.
