Seeing that this is pretty much the end of the tri season, I'm curious to hear about your off-season goals...

Are you going to push it in October?

Are you going to push it in the off-season?

Are you just going to relax and pick it up early next year?

What are you goals for October and the off-season?

As for me, I don't plan on slowing down... I plan on giving some of you AG 30-34 studs a run for your money next year...

Mostly getting my ankle injury taken care of for good. Century on Saturday followed by about 2-3 weeks off from anything swim bike or run (so I say....); lifting more, yoga once a week. Maybe throwing in some kickboxing.

Oh and form, form and more form in the pool!

My goal is to have as much fun as possible!

I will do 6-7 cyclo cross races which means playing in the mud often, a 5K, do some group rides chasing men as they are faster than I am, ride lots, work at running 4x a week and see how my body handles it.

Decide on IM tattoo....if I'm getting get it before I go to IMFL.

All about having fun and enjoying the fitness I have..no swimming not run or bike mile goals...not now I need mental break from that thinking

So glad you asked ... I was thinking about this today. I didn't race this season (no more running, doc says), so my "training" was more of a "don't gain weight" plan. But I'm finding there's a whole new world out there: Aquabike, swim meets, being punished by evil personal trainers ... so I plan to actually increase my activity this month, and for me that looks like 600 minutes a week (5 hours):

1. Take care of my ankles (recovering from sprain in one, bursitis in the other)
2. Swim, swim, swim. Continue with one-on-one lessons and check out Masters program at my gym
3. Strength train more consistently (at this point, that means one hour a week). Hire a personal trainer?
4. Minimum four hours of cardio a week -- Spinning, swimming, elliptical

1. Ride as much as possible until the snow flies.

2. Train for my second half mary at the end of January.

3. Try not to think about the fact that I just signed up for my first HIM next summer!!

Season is just beginning for me

My last Tri of the season was Sunday and my first Marathon is in 2 weeks. I am doing 3 marathons and a Half Marathon this Winter finishing up in Boston in April.

My goal is to go Sub-3 (Under a 3 Hour Marathon) and everything is geared toward making that happen. But, if it does not, I won't be too broken up about it as I am in for the long haul and will chip away at again in the Winter of 09.

I just finished my marathon training cycle and will start another in January for my April Race. My run volume will be relatively low for the remainder of the year but my bike and swim volume will ramp up as I base build for next season. (Tri Season)

Our bike club is going to start running again with the time change.  We'll start slow with 1-1.5 miles.  From there, we'll work our way up in mileage. My goal is to be able to run 8-10 miles by the Spring time change.

I'm also hoping to keep up with my swim training (2 times per week) and keep biking at least once a week.

It doesn't sound like much, but this will hopefully prepare me for my multiple triathlons (3... maybe four?) triathlons next season.

No off season,   October and November will be used to run a decent time at the Las Vegas Marathon.

I'm hoping to get to the start of the NYC Marathon (11/2) injury-free. It's been a bit of a battle. After that, I'm shifting to a bike/swim focus to prepare for IM training. I'm going to keep it unstructured, but I'm definitely not planning an off season.

I'm peaking then tapering for a November 1 Marathon; Indianapolis Monumental.  My goal is a 3:25, which will be a 22-minute PR vs. last year's 3:47 at Columbus.

So lots of running, then lots of resting is the plan.  I have standing goal to average 7hr/sleep per night and have never made it...maybe this month?  Also, I have a goal to strengthen the core by working it 4X/week throughout the month.

Good question. I'm convinced how I will do in the next year is predicated by how I prepare in the off season. Because of that I am starting earlier and more gradually than ever before. This will allow me to build a deeper base and have more time for strength training for a longer period (read: weight loss).

This is my 25th active season in traithlons so I want to have a good year. I had a decnet year last year with a few age category wins and the rest mostly top 3's. I did get my butt handed to me at the toughest race of the year I did last year, St. Croix, and also didn;t fair too well at the one national caliber race I did, Steelhead, where I was 16th in my age category.

So, in October:

Easy, moderate distance run everyday.

Occasional, unstructured riding on trainer and outdoors. All easy, all low key.

Weights: Kettle bells and core mostly.

That should get me started for this month. My run yesterday went well and that felt good. I had taken three weeks off altogether to rest and re-group after the season and it was a nice break- read a lot of books and watched a lot of movies.

I'll be focusing on weight training, working on my swimming form and endurance, maintaining a decent running and biking base, and snowboarding as much as possible the second there is enough snow on the ground!

My goal is to do the HIM in Augusta, GA in Sept 2009. I most likel;y will do 4 shorter TRIs leading up to that event. (One a month starting in May)

So starting in October I have begun my training plan to reach that goal. Running is my weakest part so that is what I am building my base slowly over the next 12 weeks while maintaining my swimming and biking base that I built up this year.

For October - now that I'm out of MCM, figure out what is wrong with my knee and hopefully just rest it, if it's nothing serious (ie something that requires surgery). Will aqua-jog and test out actual running as appropriate.

For the off-season in general, assuming knee is better in a month - just train for the 10K I'm hoping to do in December and maintain good running fitness to get stronger. Work on core strength and general flexibility, and continue to work on the muscle imbalances in my legs (right leg is weaker than left). Get some swimming in there, and start really working on the bike (on the trainer). My cycling NEEDS some improvement before next season.

I suck at running so I signed up for two 1/2 marathons, one in Nov and one in Dec. I may not be much faster next year but I'll have a better base to work from if nothing else.

October will be a bit like Sept - get out there and do whatever I can, whenever I can.  Bike, swim, run and focus on getting to yoga once a week.  Maybe a little lunchtime strength training.  November I starting training for Vineman IM, so I know my social life will be lacking in the coming months.

October: Run my first 1/2 marathon (boston) and do so under 2 hrs.

Off Season: Lots of aerobic work to continue base building and fat loss.  Join a masters swim program to get better at swimming. Learn how to ride a mt. bike properly. Find some freaks to train with. Try not to end up fired, divorced or hated by too many people.

off season = rest, nada, relax, enjoy, do other stuff non tri related, etc.

last week on Sept + first 2 weeks on October = off season. After the off season I will get back to training and get ready for running season.

Since I am in the AG 30-34 I thank you for not taking a break

I am going to base build like crazy across the board.  Hopefully add a little speed in there as well.  Start prepping for a season of Half IM's next year.
