Expert 808 Columbia, MD | Subject: RE: BOOBIES! Imagine how many more views it'll get with a photo: The Blue-footed Booby (Sula nebouxii) is a bird in the Sulidae family which comprises ten species of long-winged seabirds. The name “booby” comes from the Spanish term bobo, which means "dunce". This is because the Blue-footed Booby is clumsy on the land. Like other seabirds, they can be very tame. It has been known to land on boats, where it was once captured and eaten. The natural breeding habitat of the Blue-footed Booby is tropical and subtropical islands off the Pacific Ocean, most famously, the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador. Please stay tuned to: http://varidesforcancer.kintera.org/ As much as I would like to offer free breast exams to all the ladies, I can be of far more use promoting an event that I am founding, Virginia Rides for Cancer. Details can be found at the above website. We are aiming for a Sept 2009 ride, and the proceeds will benefit the Massey Cancer Center. If you can't ride, you can volunteer and be a part of something special. |

Already has had biopsy to confirm its cancer and has surgery scheduled for next Friday to remove the tumor and lymph nodes in the area followed by 5 weeks of radiation. Thank god for the ads that were running on our local tv so she caught it early so please keep our family in your prayers. That's exactly what this month is all about - raising awareness and catching it early. Thank goodness it worked, and that she caught it early - perhaps MUCH earlier than she otherwise would have. Thoughts and prayers sent out for a successful surgery and treatment. Any kind BTers needing to brush up on their medical skills live in the Middle of Nowhere, New England? I've got VT and NH to choose from... (good thing I'm not competing with Yanti geographically - I'd get nowhere given THAT avatar!) |

It worked out really well Saturday. Lots of "herding" walkers out of the traffic flow and to the shoulder of the road. I acted as a sacrificial lamb for traffic. No drivers were impatient, rude or squuezed through. They all just patiently waited for a clear spot to pass. One girl had cramping at ~mile 20. I started a conversation with her; she told me she had only had water so far. I gave her the electrolyte lecture, rode back to the previous rest and brought forward a bottle of Gatorade. By mile 24, she was spry and going strong again. We had 8 riders marshalling 250 walkers. We all rotated lead to laggard and everyone was typically covered every few minutes throughout the day. Rode 80miles all tolled. A couple calls for sag, beverage and traffic duty. Lots of compliments and thank yous. |
