What are your favorite off-season training activities (besides swimming, biking, and running)?

i was thinking about this too.. and I think I'll be swimming more, running about the same and biking a bit less - no spin classes for me ..

I want to add a lot more yoga, do more cardio specific plyometrics and add strength training to my calves, legs and shoulders.. a few months of that and it'll be March and the first Du's of the new season..

Surfing!!  The best swells are typically November - February up here in BC (Canada).  Water is a little chilly (usually between 4-8 degrees celsius), and it's costly (I usually buy a new board every winter [$300+])!  It's tough being a student and funding Triathlon/surfing,  but I couldn't love it ANY more! Laughing

Also, skimboarding in the winter is good too, but wetsuits are restrictive while running.  I just skim in the winter to keep my skills up.  Hopefully if I do some wave-skimming (check this youtube video if you're confused: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guFf9cNBDDo)comps this winter I can get sponsored and go Pro!!!
WAHOO!

cross country skiing is great, I also ice skate on the pond, skating all out, you would be surprised how much work it is. I don't know how they do that speed skating in the olympics.

A bit of downhill skiing but can't stop with the big three. Doing a spinning class through the winter and focusing on some running goals.

In accordance with my ursine nature, I put on extra body fat and sleep a lot during the winter.

1. Cross Country skiing.

2. Snowshoeing. It's phenomenal.

3. Stairmaster. Sadistic, but necessary.

Cyclocross...wicked challenging and fun bike racing on grass, mud, going over barriers, best in rain and hope to try it in the snow this fall.

Work on getting faster s/b/r...off season is the time to get faster folks.

Sledding!

Ok so not really a sport or training but I love to do it when I can. What I really love to do are the weekend winter hikes around here. get up into the snowy areas with my wife and our dog and just push through a 7-8 mile hike in the snow. I only do it on paths I am familiar with but it is a great workout, a lot of fun, and you can get some amazing pictures.

I hope to pick my strength training back up.  I haven't lifted weights since the end of Febuary.

Love adding in flexibility training.

Hope to have a bike focus off season to do an early season century though.

High speed skiing in big moguls on steep runs. It really gives the legs a strong workout.

Don, I'm impressed. A 52-year-old out there on the moguls. If you ever see me on moguls, it means I took a wrong turn off the lift.

I started XC skiing last year. I must say that I love downhill as much, if not more, than XC, but XC is just "convenient." It's cheaper, the parking is free, no lift lines, and there's never any crowds. But I miss downhill.

for me the off season means no training hence, eating, sleeping and drinking a few beers are my favorite activities

I spent many years refining my mogul technique and though I'm not quite as fast as I used to be, I can still hang in there with most of the young guys. If I don't push myself to do the hard stuff on skis, I find it kinda boring. Moguls, trees, powder, steeps all are things I still like to do. I no longer jump off cliffs though. Snowboarding the bumps is great fun too and much more difficult than skiing.

XC skiing is fun too, but my heart and soul were heavily invested in downhill for so long I just never acquired a passion for XC. However, XC is a fantastic workout!

Climbing local mountains -- here in Boulder there are a lot of options.

Kind of tri-related, but I have also had periods where I hit the swim-specific dryland training very hard.  It was a change of pace for my strength training.  Details for that...
