Chris will be thrilled.....

Welcome to the Red Rock Company homepage

October 17, 2008 - Soma is approaching quickly...its time to rest up and be smart!  The Red Rock crew has some changes in the mix on the bike course due to some delayed construction in Tempe.  The changes will be in the athlete guides and should help increase the safety of the course.  Athlete guides will be published NEXT week...please be patient...

Yeah we (lisa, cody, chad, and I) did the racelab ride this morning they were trying to tell us about all of the changes before hand, it was really confusing. And the ride consisted of us going about a mile doing a u-turn, going about a mile doing a u-turn, etc. etc. Then on top of that we're told the second loop changes.

So its going to be interesting.

Yes, I plan on being there, but honestly I won't be any help as far as telling where we're going. I am not that familiar with Tempe anyway, so to have gone on the ride today with a map wich wasn't accurate (due to said changes), plus all the turn arounds, I didn't know where I was half the time. AND, FYI in general I am just really horrible with directions.

So, i'll be there, but not sure exactly how much help i'll be. Cody is really familiar with the area and he was out there today, if we ask him he may be able to piece together the route to help us navigate tomorrow. Like already stated the map on the website is not correct.

From what I gathered, they took out the leg that goes down Lakeview from Mill Ave around the Marque and back. It is the Lakeview road. Due to the construction. Here is he short and nasty from this morning ride.

Tempe Town lake T1
Head west out of parking lot.
Right out of parking lot and down Rio Salado.
Right on Priest (same as Nathans)
(from here it is not the same on a group ride as it is on race day due to the freeway)
(we took priest to Roosevelt and U-turned at Center)

Right on to the freeway on ramp and stay to the right
it will lead to Center Parkway Take left
Left on Roosevelt
Left on Priest
lft on Rio Salado

Rio Salado all the way to McClintock
(Yes that means through the construction)
Go through McClintock to the next light Make a U-Turn
Head North on McClintock to aprox the Corvette dealership
Make a U-Turn
Head South on McClintock
Right on Rio Salado to Mill Ave
Right on Mill Ave. Right on Curry
left at the liht after the hill on Curry
Go down that Road untill there is a break in the Median
Make A U-Turn
Make the right back on to Curry
Make a right onto Mill Ave.
Take Mill untill the Median Ends neer the SRP
Make a U-Tun
Head back over the Mill bridge
Right on RioSalado back to the parking lot

That is one loop. I am not sure where the turn will be for the 1/4man people on the second loop. I am sorry if that dose not make sence. I am tryig to figure why they did it that way.

have fun LOL

I think these are the main changes....*please confirm in your athlete packet as we were given these instructions verbally today*

**Based on the Garmin printout below it looks like we still do ride South on McClintock.  I swear the said cut out that little loop and go North instead?!**

I'm really glad they changed it. I mean the two U-turns last year just weren't
enough. Oh, and since people raced it last year, they actually knew the
course so they could go hard instead of having to wonder where to turn
around.

This will be much better as it will bunch people up more and then we
can make sure the "n00bs" and the "pointy hats" have more opportunties
to get pissed off.

I'm trying to figure out why they do that Priest portion. If they cut that out
they could add another 2 Uturns.

Sarcastically yours,

-Jot

I am realy disapointed with this route. I am a OK rider. If I am given wide open spaces I can leave a lot of people in awe of a huge mammoth man passing them. But this is S**T. Everytime you get a good straight away you have a turn or U-turn. I don't think there is much over a 1.5mile stretch that doesn't have a U-turn or Turn.

This is what I get for complaining about Nathans course.

I know,...wine wine wine. I am just waitting for some pointy hat to pass me on the right and a nOOb to to be all the way to left and clueless. This should be interesting.

The part of the course they had to remove was that lakeview section just north of Mill due to construction.

They had to add the scottsdale rd section to make up the distance.

I have to be honest, there really can be no complaining now. It has been over a YEAR that TTL races have had weird, u-turn, multiple loop courses. It's just the way it is.

Go ride your bike, do your race, have fun. Everyone deals with the same conditions on that day so if you are a little slowed down by it - so are they.

I'll be out there for you CHEERING!
