If EVER a playoff were indicated, this is the year. USC will benefit from losing early as will FLA. If 'Bama is a 1 loss SEC runner up, they'll be out of the BCS bowls entirely while an undefeated Boise St. gets in. Even though Pitt benefits from it, why would a Big East winner get a BCS bid at the expense of schools like these? Silly...

Ditch the conference champonship games (or reformat them as part of) and get a 16 team playoff working.

I'm stoked for a possible Pitt/PSU Sugar bowl though.

It'll shake out. Florida and Bama will no doubt meet in the SEC championship, and when Florida wins (of course), Bama will be out of the picture. Texas Tech will probably lose at least once (2 top tens still on their schedule). So, I'm thinking Florida and PSU for the marbles. ANd that'll make 3 SEC national champions in the last three years.

Maybe then they'll remove the Big 10's affiliation with the BCS

They really should remove the conference affiliation though. Does anyone care who wins the Big East or the ACC? The only reason I want to see them in a BCS game is for blowout purposes.

Also has anyone looked at the new BCS standings? The computer polls are so terrible. Two polls have UT over TTU, including one poll that has UT as #1 with TTU as #4.

Unfortunately, for the fans, the ones who care about the conference championship games are the recipients of the schools that are raking in the $$$.

The NCAA D-1 has become little more than an NFL prep academy with more emphasis on finding ways to stoke the cash furnace than anything else.

Killer scenario (at least for me)

Imagine this.... Alabama (or Tex Tech, but not both) goes undefeated and so does PSU. I am reading that a 1 loss team like Florida or Texas will pass PSU in the BCS standings if they win out... Yes I am well aware that we have had a weaker schedule this year, but it would really suck to have 2 un-defeated teams from the major conferences not play each other. Reminds me of 1994

The problem is of course the continued myth that the Big 10 is one of the "major conferences".

The other problem is dirrectly related to the Big 10 also.  (1) Historically Big 10 teams have not scheduled tough non-conference games, (2) no conference championship game.

By your monicor I'm assuming you're a Penn State fan, get used to this system beccause there is no one to blame but the Big 10.  The Big 10 is the stonewall to a NCAA DI playoff system.  Do a search for some of the comments the Big 10 conference commissioner has said about a playoff system.  So while I feel your pain if you go undefeated, the fact remains that if Texas Tech runs the table, or if Alabama runs the table, or if you have a 1 loss team out of the Big 12 and a one loss team out of the SEC, they have played a far more difficult schedule.

If say Boise State or Utah runs the table should they play Penn State in the BCS championship game?

I just don't have a lot of sympathy for Big 10 schools.  My feeling is they are constantly over rated, play no one and the conference is a fraud.

(OH I do have national championship game tickets if Penn State happens to make it, PM me)

Riiighhht... you know because teams like FSU, Miami and Virginia Tech have such a poor history in winning national championships.

The BCS championship game started in 1998 so that's 20 teams that have been in the BCS championship game, of those 20 teams 6 are currently ACC schools, (FSU three times, Virginia Tech once and Miami twice)  compare this to the Big 10 which has put Ohio State in the national championship game three times and that's it.

I'm an FSU fan and I'd love to play the "winner" of the Big 10 every single year, and we're no good.  Talk about a "fraud" of a conference.

Penn State could lose to Michigan State and Texas Tech will lose one of those games against OU or OSU. I do believe that a one loss team (Texas,USC,Florida,Oklahoma) is a better choice than PSU even if they are undefeated.

If MSU goes into Happy Valley and wins you won't have to worry!

That said, I don't particularly like our chances against PSU - but I can dream about a rose bowl berth!

I love it.

Even when a school puts together a decent team, no one can believe they have any talent, just because of the conference.  Because that makes objective sense.

The reason the Big Ten doesn't have a championship playoff is because they don't have enough teams, plain and simple.

In part, you can thank my beloved Buckeyes for the predicament that PSU is in! I don't think a one loss team will pass PSU if the finish undefeated.

Also, I like the BCS just the way it is. Creates excitement and makes each weeks games so important.

Not going to argue schedule of B10 teams....They play a couple of good teams. Purdue played Oregon this year and always has ND (back before ND went south) Then of course there are the patsies thrown in for tuning up form. But all schools have weak schedules time to time. Didn't the #1 team in the land 'Bama, just play a juggernaut in Arkansas....er, that would be Ark. STATE??? Also, I believe a pre-season #9 Auburn team played powerhouse UL Monroe and next week plays UT...not the Vols but UT MARTIN. Also, they just got blasted by one of those 'weak' Big East schools. Last year 'Bama lost to a very mediocre FSU and also a UL Monroe team that lost to the likes of Ark. State, UL Lafayette (WHO??) , and by 40 to a bad A&M team....Add to that, the bowl record of the last few years b/t B10 and SEC is 14-13 in favor of the SEC. So how does that show a powerhouse SEC? How does the bowl record show that top to bottom SEC so much > than B10? It doesn't. Granted, I'd be the first to admit B10 is down this year. So what. The The B12 is getting all the hype yet no one dogs them for having an absolutely pitiful schedule and also a pitiful bottom half of the conference. B10 just taking the heat b/c of 2 OSu flops....I'll still take the B10 year in and year out in the bowls to win at a .500 rate vs SEC....

I think PSU is fine. They should win out. If they don't, they still win the Big 10 and get to go to a BCS bowl but don't belong in the BCS championship.

Incorrect.  If MSU beats PSU in the final game of the year, MSU will win the Big Ten and get the BCS bid.  Why?  Because PSU will get marked down for playing a Div II school and that is part of the tie-breaker formula.

However, State's chances against PSU are um, not the best!  I can dream though.
