Subject: RE: Early Season Cold water OWS questionI swim in San Francisco bay year round, temps around 48-50 in winter. I use a wetsuit, earplugs, a 'hothead' by Barracuda and a bright swim cap over. No booties, no gloves, sometimes no wet suit.
I just ease in and let the water numb my feet, then hands. I start my swim with my face out of water since putting my face in the water to get numb is the hardest part. But within .25 mile my face is in as well.
It does take time for your body to get used to the idea of cold OWS, both physically and mentally. Start short and add time as your body adjusts.
Have something hot to drink on shore, and get warm ASAP after getting out of the water. Edited by LittleCat 2009-03-03 1:04 PM
