Obviously this question is for ladies- perferably the slightly bustier kind.  I've just started training for my first sprint distance triathlon and have a nagging question I thought I'd ask.  I need a fairly substantial sports bra to run, it provides support exponentially better than any bathing suit I've ever seen can. When I transition from swim to (bike then to) run should I add another sports bra on top of my swim suit or do I swim with my sports bra under my suit?  I'm just shooting to finish this triathlon, so the extra drag in that situation wouldn't necessarily be a deal breaker.  Any ideas?

What are you planning on wearing for the race?  Just a swimsuit?  I'd probably wear the bra under the suit.  It's a pretty big pain to try to get extra clothes on after the swim because you are wet and trying to do it quickly.

I'm not that large, but I do have to wear a supportive bra.  I race in tri shorts, the bra I normally run in, and a tri top.  There are some bras that will be better about drying during the race - I know a lot of people like the Moving Comfort ones.

Wear what you will for tri for the swim as changing doesn't work well when wet.

Moving Comfort Fiona bra works well for many as it is supportive and dries quickly and goes up thru DD. I have a lot of them. Another option but more expensive is CW-X Xtra Support Bra.

I was trying to figure out this same thing... I am a D... so there is no way I could go running with my swimsuit on.  It would be dangerous.  LOL  So I asked around on here and just decided to wear a pair of tri sports and a sports bra for the swim, then through on a shirt for the rest.  I swam in my "outfit" for the first time yesterday and it was great!!
I searched around on a bunch of websites and ended up finding a pair of tri shorts on clearance for $19.  They're bright a$$ magenta... but they're comfy and they were cheap!  LOL

Good luck!!

I agree with the others.  Putting on a sports bra in transition will be challenging.  I would end up strangling myself.  Laughing

I wear a sports bra under my tri top.  I like having everything strapped in and not having to worry about shifting or bounce.

I swam, biked and ran in the whole outfit a couple of times before race day.  It ended up that I hated the first pair of tri shorts that I bought, so I was glad I gave the outfit a test run.

I wore mine under my tri top through swim, bike and run.  It worked well, dried pretty quick, and didn't bother me at all.

Another vote for wearing a sports bra under your top. I wear mine under my tri-top and I'm good to go for the entire race.

Ditto. And having the slightly damp sports bra under my top (I wear a full trisuit) is nice and refreshing. Not to mention it would get wet anyway with sweat.

Another Fiona by Moving Comfort fan here.  Last year I wore my bra and tri shorts for the swim (some with wetsuits, some without) and put on a loose fitting tank for the bike and run since Im not comfortable running in a bra and spandex shorts. I'm guilty of a full change in T1 during my first tri b/c I didn't know better - not pretty and not recommended

First, the obligatory "This thread is worthless without pics..."

Now that the internet humour is done with, on a serious note, if you do plan on changing in T1/T2, make sure you are well covered up.  Some races will give you a DQ for nudity in transition.  Harsh, but that's the way it goes.  As for actual bra advice, I can't give you much on that...

I don't think I'm that huge but wear one under my tri top.  I cannot stand any movement of the twins at all when I'm running, so I like them completely clamped down.

My newest favorite is the Moving Comfort Dori model.

I can't speak about an actual brand that does well with me since my "girls" are fairly non-existent! Laughing But, I can say that changing in T1 is a pain in the rear. If I were you than I would wear a sports bra under my swim suit.
I wore a trisuit from Zoot for my 1st sprint and I LOVED it. There were no shorts or top to be put on. All I had to worrying about were shoes and helmet.

I'm a fan of the CW-X bras too.  They rock.  I wear a sports bra under my tri top.  Don't try to change or put on on in T1 or T2 its sooper hard when you are wet.  If you have any boobs at all you pretty much need to take the sports bra under tri top approach.  Those whimpy shelf POS's in the tri tops are worthless.

Oh yeah I wear a sports bra underneath my swimsuit... those puppies need all the support they can get. I actually have a trisuit with one of those built in crop top bra thingys so..

I wear a bra AND the trisuit with the built in... double the support and less bounce... definatley try swimming in it before the race though... can be a bit weird at first!

I wear one bra and a tri top with a built-in bra.  No changing necessary, and keeps the endowments under control.

Artemis - 2009-04-15 8:04 AM  I race in tri shorts, the bra I normally run in, and a tri top.

Me too. For my first OWS, I wore just the sports bra and threw on a shirt for the run, but for the second I wore a tri top under my wet suit and it worked much, much better.

I've got a Champion sports bra that comes in real bra sizes... none of that S, M, L stuff where, if it the band fits, the cups are too small and, if the cups fit, the band is too loose.

I never fall out of it and it I don't bounce too much either. Unlike other "sports" bras I've tried.

Thanks y'all!  I was definitely not planning on trying to change completely during T1- even if the rules were not against public nudity.... Let's just say I'm not far enough in my training for my bod to be ready for public display- ha!  Sounds like it's time to go shopping for my tri suit (and practice swimming with everything).  I really appreciate all the answers!

Wear it underneath the bathing suit or tri top.

Being someone who is very busty (40D)..I HIGHLY recommend the ENELL sports bra. I guarantee you will have ZERO movement in one of these. This is the only sports bar I wear when I race and trust me, I got alot to keep tied down

Wishing you the best in your race

PS here is the website to check them out: http://www.enell.com/index.php

Adding in a vote for the Moving Comfort Maia bra. Best I have found to keep things "stable" on top and it dreis really quickly.
