Just wondering what the SHORTEST distance is that you all would label a long run (if that makes sense...) I know it is all relative to what distance you are training for- a long run for someone training for IM will be different than someone who is training for Oly.

Mine is 10 miles and I just try to stay in enough shape to run a 1/2 mary any time if I feel like.

I really dont do any long runs if my next race distance is 5k or 10k.

It depends on where in my training cycle (annual or current period) I am.  Right now, in IM training, really 9-10 would be shortest weekly "long run" in a recovery week.  Other times, in an off season rest week, I might not go longer than 7 miles for a weekend long run.  Rarely don't do a run of at least that length, other than in the week leading up to a mary or HM.

5 miles.  ha ha!  I know that seems like nothing but where I am in my training that honestly is a long one.

x2 on that one.  I'm also just starting out though, and definately not a good runner.  Although just a few months ago, 2 miles was my long run.  So I guess 5 is a lot in comparison.

I think I consider anything above 8 miles as  longish run.

Aside from an Oly race, I haven't run anything longer than like 5.5 miles since IM last year. So, I guess a 5 miler is my long run now.

I just realized that I didn't answer my own question.  For me, anything over 10K distance falls into the long run category right now.

Now that I'm into my sprint racing season, 7.3 miles is my long run.

x2 doing IM end of August and on my recovery weeks I run 9 currently. Back in January what was long and what was long on recovery week was much shorter. Now even on recovery weeks I normally run 19+ miles.

90min

That sounds about right for me too. I have some favored local routes and loops that take me over an hour but once it's getting up around an hour and a half or more I'd call it a long run.

7 miles or more.  I just havent taken my training to a higher level.  BUT, my plan will increase these Long runs.  I would like to get my long runs up to 10 ish within the next month.

When training for marathons, I consider 15 miles a long run.  I think good things happen when you start getting 2-3 hours into a run.  It brings along adaptations that nothing else does.
