...Second economic layoff in 8 months.  No more complaining about the 9 1/2 hour days and 1 hour r/t commute from me now!  And  almost 6 weeks until my IM...could the timing be more perfect?

Damn Todd, sorry to hear it.  I got laid off pre IM last year, so that led to some monster training months   Hope you find something new quickly

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago.  I'm not training for an IM, just an oly, but suddenly I have plenty of time for those two hour bike rides during the week.  At least you're looking on the bright side!

I just hope it doesn't turn into a choice for you between a new job and the IM! Good luck!

Kinda saw it coming all along (this was a recent conversion from temp that I accepted pretty reluctantly--5 of the 6 permanent staffers in the department, including the CFO, were laid off today) and so I've hung on to a lot of my Jeopardy! winnings from last year.  Compared to a lot of people who've lost jobs in the last year, I can't really complain...too much.

Was just talking to a SAR member about this - he got laid off, so he can go to any search, anywhere. I said, "Yeah, but how can you afford the gas?" (as we were on a 2.5-hr one-way call) Turns out he gets severance until August. Niiiiiiiiice.

Was wondering if you'd squirreled away your winnings. IIRC, it made for a pretty nice nest; not fabulous, but as you say, better than others. Now you need to get on the Champions show!
