He won the Giro without even training for it, he's the best climber in the world and the Spanish TT champion and has the best team.  Of his main rivals, Menchov is likely to be burnt out after the Giro, Evans has no team, Andy Schleck doesn't have it in the TTs and is no better than Contador in the mountains and Sastre... maybe.

Personally I'd love to see Lance win, and I think he could beat every other rider except Contador.  Interestingly, Contador has been given number 21 by Bruyneel with the rest of the team in alphabetical order, suggesting Contador is number 1 in Astana.  Then again, I'm sure this will pi$$ Lance off and we all know how well he can ride in the frame of mind...

Short answer... I hope so...

I think the way CSC-Saxobank rode last year they have proven they might now have the winner but they DO know how to ride to shake up the GC... especially if their contenders are good mountain climbers (I think the older Schleck might still be the one to watch for one more year)

Cadel, well not sure he will ever win a tour but he tries so hard Id like him to... and well Sastre's team will have divided loyalties...

Rogers was coming into form during the Giro and is the master of getting into opportune breaks to gain serious time. One of his past problems has been improving his climbing seems to affect his TT abilities but I would be hoping that after his first good week or so in the Giro he has ridden into form (yeah yeah a bit of wishful thinking)

Mechov usually is a bit weak in the Tour but Top 5... then wins the Vuelta... if the second Grand Tour is his strongest then he will be up there contesting he whole wary...

I dont think Contador is unbeatable to be honest (and Im not reallya fan which doesnt help) but I think he will be hard to beat unless he makes mistakes. And...there are enough guys out there that will keep him working... I dont think it will be a walkover!

I think plenty of people can.  I personally do not see him as all that dominant at all.

Hmmm, I do not see him losing the tour unless there is internal strife. But if his team gets behind him I think he will win.

The only riders in the Tour that can challenge Contador are on his own team and surprisingly its Kloden that has emerged as the #2 ahead of Levi and Lance. Sastre has no team and will lose huge time in the TTT, Evans has no team and lacks the balls to attack, and the Schlecks are stick figures that can go up hill fast but neither can TT. It is going to be interesting to see how the TTT shakes out.

I wont say no one can challenge him but he doeas look the strongest rider after stage 1; I think he is the guy to beat but we will see. I also don't think Kloden is the #2 Astana guy just yet; 3 weeks of racing is a long time to go...

I think any rider can be beaten, but I doubt that Contador will be this time around...

How do the results of Stage 3 change everyone's opinion?

Lance certainly made a statement today.  He's only 19 seconds ahead of Contador though, which should be easy enough to overturn.  But, today was an example of how important experience and awareness is in the TdF.

I still think that Contador is physically the strongest rider but Lance is very intelligent on the bike and that might be what ultimately gives him the edge.

The fact that LA put Popo and Zubeldia on the front and said "Go" really shows up what his intent is ..........

No doubt! If Contador was truly the leader of Astana Lance wouldn't have had them pull.

I wouldn't say that Kloden has emerged as the #2. He was faster on the Prologue, but I don't think that makes him the #2 guy. Contador and LA still are at the top of the team.
