Hi All,
I'd like to get some input about what people are drinking other than Gatorade. I've been drinking Gatorade Focus and G2 which have half the sugar per serving than regular Gatorade, but I'm still concerned about the sugar intake over the long term. It adds up quickly. What do you like?

Thanks.

I do water, Endurox and for post workouts I use Cytomax recovery....I find that anything with heavy sugar like Sobe, gatorade and Vitamin water kill my stomach.  I have however in a jam mixed 50%water and 50% Vitamin water when needed.

I use perpetuem for fuel and I use water with endurolyte and a little sugar free lemonade (cystalite powder) to add a little bit of flavor.

Works well for me. YMMV.

If you are drinking Gatorade appropriately, i.e., to fuel longer workouts, you WANT that sugar.  It's not to be avoided.

I like Accelerade because of it's 4:1 carbs to protein ratio.  You'll find some folks here that like Infinit (sp?) because you can make your own mix based on your training requirements.

I like Accelerade too but stay away from the lemon-lime flavor...I bought 2X64 serving tubs of the stuff and it tastes pretty foul when warm, so I am slogging through it, wishing I had just stuck to the orange (which is pretty good (IMO)).

I've been drinking the Gatorade, not so much to fuel longer workouts but more to replenish during workouts and to help recovery. At least that's my thinking. My sessions are not very long right now, usually a 20 minute swim of about 750 yards and then a 30 min run or 10-13 mile bike ride. I usually drink about 1.5 quarts a day. So far I have not had any health issues, so I guess what I've been doing has been ok. I'm training for my first race next month and hope to be steadily increasing my distances/times. Also, I'm 42 years old. Don't know if that's a factor.

If you are exercising for less than an hour, water alone should generally suffice as you don't really need to fuel your workout--just hydrate.  Replenish afterwards, if necessary, with real food (at under an hour, you should generally only need a small snack at most even for that purpose).  That's too much of any sports drink to be having daily if that's your typical workout level.

I use carboRocket. Rasberry is a pretty good flavor, not to heavy or sweet. Good stuff made from all natural ingredients and doesn't upset my stomach at all. The guy that sells it is a mountain biker and developed it so he could drink it all day and not make hmself sick.

I'm a big fan of the Gatorade Tiger (aka "Focus") brand...I know that's not the answer you were looking for, but--as others have said--you do need some carbs during training and I like being able to control the calories by starting with the lower carb content in that particular drink (same as in G2) and supplementing with gels and/or blocks.  What I appreciate about Gatorade Tiger specifically is that it has the highest electrolyte content of any of the off-the-shelf Gatorade products.

Thanks to all for the replies so far. I rode 13 miles at the gym today in 41 min and then did a 5 min warm down jog and the sweat was pouring off me, which is typical, but I felt pretty good after. Just want to make sure I'm putting back what I need.

I bought a single serving packet of lemon-lime Accelerade last week and mixed it up to try for my long Sunday workout.  (I had been diluting Vitamin water 1:1 w/ water to dilute the flavor, but that isn't much fuel at that point.)  I wish I had read your warning sooner!  I ended up diluting it with 4x as much water as called for b/c the taste & smell was so bad.  Once I got it in a water bottle and couldn't smell it anymore, it seemed to work okay...even 4x diluted.

Maybe I'll give it another try with orange!

I've got the fruit punch flavor and it taste great cold.  Anything less than cold and I can live with it, but in general I don't like any warm drinks regardless of brand (as I would assume most would).

Accelerade fruit punch is my favorite. During training I dilute it a little bit.

I love the Accelerade orange flavour.  However, I assumed a scoop went into a bottle and that was it - I didn't realize that I needed 2 scoops for a 24oz bottle.  It tastes WAY better at appropriate concentrations. *laughing*

It sits well in my stomach and I like the taste.

If you can live with what's on the course you're better off.  I really don't like the Gatorade Endurance Formula (even less than I like eLoad), so I'm carrying my own fluids on the bike...

If you're looking for an endurance sports drink to take while exercising, either Powebar Endurance ("PBE") or Gatorade Endurance Formula ("GE") will likely suit you best.  (Note this is a different formula than the Gatorade G2, Tiger, or other products).

The primary reason is that these two contain multiple sugar sources with differing glycemic index ratings.  PBE has 3 sugar types and GE has 2.  Your body will absorb these sugars at different rates so you'll get a more even absorbtion of calories than most sports drinks which contain only 1 sugar type.

Further, I've been told by a doctor/triathlete that the isotenisity of GE very closely matches that of the body, so its less likely to cause stomach upset than many other sports drinks.

I use endurox R4 in fruit punch flavor after my long workouts for a recovery drink. I'm not real experienced with this sort of thing but I really feel like it helps my next session. Still experimenting with what works for me during my workouts.

I've always been a diluted Gatorade guy but I tried a couple bottles of Gu2O yesterday on a hot, mid-day ride and I like!
