Subject: What's your dream portable electronic device for running/riding?

Okay trigeeks, if you could dream up your ideal portable electronic device for running, riding and any of your other outdoor activities, what would it be?

Imagine you could carry or wear just one device...what would it do?  What would it look like?  What problems would you want solved that no one device can do today?

Inquiring minds want to know ;-)

My Garmin 305 is pretty close, let's start there and add:

*True waterproofing with HRM and GPS capability on the swim
*>16GB MP3 capability
*Cycling power capability. Since we're wishing, let's have similar power reaqdouts for swim and run.
*Wireless capability, including phone, text and internet.

I'm sure I'll think of more to add...

Does yard-work while I'm out running or riding.

How about:
*Accurate elevation data
*Ability to upload maps
*Ability to accurately read HR through your wrist, eliminating the need for the chest strap (we're wishing, right?)

*I was thinking about this the other day- wouldn't it be cool to have buttons on the brake hoods and/or aerobar extensions that would operate the device (ie be able to scroll through multiple data screens without moving your hands)?

Robot babysitter, so when I am out on the run/bike, it can watch the kids and keep the house clean. Then my wife will beg me to train more.

This list raises a dilema, no?  With this capability, does it still fit on your wrist like a watch?  If not, how do you picture carrying/wearing such a thing while still being able to see your performance data?

Good stuff!  Keep your wishlists coming :-)

Have all of the previously mentioned features, but have the display in the lenses of your sunglasses. That way, the information would be presented in front of you, but not block your vision.

^^^^^

Exactly!  For all us women out there that ride/run alone, some sort of taser/mace feature.  Oh yea, and maybe some kind of dog repellent that would come out the back of the saddle or the pedals.

In addition to previous features,
* Calculating your lactate threshold, VO2max, and whatever other physiological measures there are and where your effort is in relation to them
* Determining your hydration level -- % weight gain/lost
* Determine how many calories you're really burning, what % fuel is coming from glucose vs. fat, how much you have left "in the tank"
* Determine electrolyte levels
* Determine your aerodynamic profile and optimum aerodynamic position
* Corrections for swim and run technique
* Pedal stroke analysis
* Broadcast GPS so people who you select can track you (this is already on the market)
* Pick up other selected people's GPS broadcast to know where you are in relation to them (like your competitors)
* Video camera with an option to stream to the Internet
* 2-way communications with your coach and support crew
* Monitors brain waves and alters your mental patterns for optimal performance
* Core temperature readings
* Monitor air quality, water quality

It could be about the size of a Gamin 310 XT but with a screen that takes up the entire face and iphone like virtual controls.

AHAHAHA I can't even imagine using that and staying serious. Actually I can understand that it is probably really good for staying balanced and working extra core muscles but honestly! I wanna see someone run on that thing...hahaha.

Although I think that would provide a lot of entertainment after a bit of alcohol...too bad I cut that out of my diet while training...
