Is it just me or do womens "running" workout clothing keep getting smaller and smaller?  I'm curious as to why?  Is it comfort, women not careing if they are staired at, or something different?  Not that I'm complaining at all, just interested in the mind set of women...

do you mean in size or in coverage? I think a lot of sizes are getting larger, especially some brands, a small now fits a rather large body!

I think she/he is referring to coverage.

Because it costs less to produce a product with less material.

Also because there are a number of people who do like to, or at least are comfortable, showing off more of their body.  I'm sure it's cooler to wear with less material covering your body.

In the summer, it is way more comfortable for anyone (woman or man) to wear less clothing.  Shirts, longer shorts and singlets all chafe more than jog bras and shorter shorts or skirts.  Especially for people who sweat a lot.  And, low-rise shorts or skirts don't press on the tummy which lessens the likelihood of bathroom stops.

I used to be one of those people who made fun of the "short-shorts" my uncle the runner used to wear.  Now, I wonder why clothing manufacturers make their shorts so long in the inseam or so high in the waist because those are really uncomfortable for a long or hot run and I have to roll them down.

I think they still wear too much.  No reason women shouldn't be able to compete topless like men do.  It's just sexist and puts men at an advantage since they don't have to wear the extra clothing.  I think the USAT needs to address this (plus think of the money that would roll in thanks to the increased viewing).

Seriously though, isn't there an advantage to wearing more when swimming (since at least the female pool swimmers seem to wear the 1piece suits)?  And could the same be said for biking?  You don't see TdF winners in speedos.

Hmm, I can't say that I have noticed this at all.  I know Nike has been making the same style running shorts for the past 5+ years.  I see women wearing a wide range of running attire.  Is this something you just noticed over the past couple months?  Yes, we wear less clothes in the summer when its HOT!  Its not because we want to be stared at.

Aside from the fact that I am now a small, when I have always been a large, I see no change. (Meaning, sizing has changed....but coverage has not)

I just have an issue with inseams. 1/2 inch is NOT an inseam, that's a sewing accident. I'm sure that those out there with firm toned legs are loving the short inseam shorts...but those of us not so blessed by the genetics...it just means that I own stock in bodyglide and wear a mens tri suit (hello, thigh rub). The short flowy runners shorts (i.e. not spandex) are a no go for me. They ride up so much that it just looks like my crotch is trying to eat them.

Yes I was meaning coverage, and no not over the past couple weeks or months.  Over the past several years!  Some of the stuff that is being worn now I wouldn't let my daughter or wife out of the house in!  Inseams are an issue...  Really you feel comfortable running in practicly "underwear"?  Case in point, women's volleyball shorts now....when I was in school / college they were really shorts....now they are just glorified panties!!   No I'm not 80...  I'm in my lower 30's...    HOT is one word to use...  but is it because you are HOT (in which sense of the word?)  If you were heat hot, maybe you would be more comfortable in nothing as one poster put it.  I'm just noticing a "shrinking" trend in (coverage wise) in womens wear.  I really want a perspective from someone who wears such "clothing", because I don't think it's global warming causing the lack of coverage in women's shorts, do you??

Here'e my opinion, from a woman who wears short shorts and a running bra in the summer when it's hot out.

I wear what I want to wear, depending on the weather, to get the job done. I don't give a flying fig if someone looks at me and thinks I'm indecent. I don't have a perfect body. Some people might look at me and wish I'd put a shirt on. It doesn't phase me at all.

I am exactly like most males when it comes to picking my clothing for my morning run, "how hot is it out- what should i wear?"

I can only imagine the response I'd get if I tried to forbid my wife from wearing something. Duck!

I have to agree.  The more I run and the longer distance I run, I find that I want a lot less clothes.  Things pressing on my stomach drive me crazy.  The singlets that fit tighter don't cause chafing under my arm.

I may not be the most attractive person out there running, but I'm more comfortable this way and I don't really care what other people think.

Maybe this answers my whole question...   I'm the only man left in American with any say on his significant other leaves the house in.

I wonder why those serial rapist's / killers etc, like those female runners.....  can't quite figure it out....    Anyone want to change their tune yet??  Sorry if I  don't want my wife oggled over let alone raped, dismembered and and strewn about the country side!!   Shame on me for caring...

Ignoring the sensationalistic portion of your post, which can go nowhere but to a bad place...

First you say "not that I'm complaining," which implies that you are one of the oglers.  (One "g," btw).  Then you say that you won't want your wife ogled.

Which is it?  Perhaps both?

I am not sure why I am continuing this thread, but here are the shorts that represent what most women wear while running.  I don't think they are even close to looking like underwear.  Little did I know that these shorts can make some man go into a frenzy and become a serial rapist.  Hmm, Nike should have a warning on them...

I do like a short short.  What I don't like are the shirts that are so short in the torso  While I may be fit enough to wear something that bears my belly, I simply don't want to. I usually have a tough time finding something I like because I am well endowed up top, but only 5'4" in stature.  Thus, I could wear a small, but it's too short. I'm swimming in a medium, but it's the right length.

What's a girl to do?  I figure it's time to start my own clothing line for women who are athletic, have thighs, muscle and want to wear comfortable, non-chafing clothing while running.  Now if I could just get some financial backing...hmmm....Where to look?

I see the problem. The OP seems to be from the "Upper P" in Michigan. That's practically Antarctica. They don't see skin up there very often.

I hate LOW CUT sport tops for women. I go to buy a tank top with a built in bra... but most of them are so low cut that my clevage is hanging out.... I can't buy them. I really don't need to be hanging out of my top when I run, thanks.
