Since the wetsuits are on sale I order both the full suit and sleeveless. I was planning on trying them on and seeing which one I like best and returning the other one. They arrived this afternoon and I tried them on this evening. Well...............I felt like I was stuffing 20lb of potatoes into a 15 lb sack. I am 6'6" 275lb, when I talked to customer service they recomended the xxl suits which are the one that I got. They both fit quite snug to say the least. I know I need to lose about 40 lbs and they would fit better. This afternoon my arm motion felt fine. I have an OWS this weekend and will see how they feel in H20. I am also worried about the heat, I live, race and train in arkansas.

My questions;

Is how tight should they fit?
Will they stretch out? I am planning on dropping that 40 lbs, when accpomlished will they be to big?
How much hotter is full vs sleeveless?

It should be fairly tight but able to breath and move around without a problem.  It will stretch out.  A wetsuit is like a sponge.  Once you get some water on the wetsuit you will notice it to stretch much more.  Dropping 40 lbs could mean a whole size change.  and I'm not sure the comparison between full and sleevless.

Good luck and keep us updated with your success.

i felt the same way when I first got mine.... Fits much different then a surfing wetsuit.  I'm 6'2" 195 approx..I went with the Large. make sure you pull the legs a good ways up your calf....also pull the arms way up so you have plenty of mobility. You will feel alot more comfortable once you get in the water.

I got mine too (sleveeless) and it felt alittle tight but like everyone says it will loosen up when you hit the water.

Mine is pretty snug.  I spend a good 5 - 10 mins slowly working it up my legs and arms to ensure I have no restrictions around my shoulders at all.

I just ordered mine today.  I am the low end of my size on their sizing chart so I hope it fits right.  I tend to have thicker thighs that most.

That is true.  Also these wetsuits should be a LITTTLE different then surfing suits.  I had a surfing suit and mobility in those thing are much harder.

I was worried about the size I got but it came yesterday and it fits perfect out of water. We will see how it does in water. I can get it on alot easier than my Q-Roo which is a size smaller. I hope it will not get too big for me and create drag but seems to fit perfect otherwise. I could not be happier. I got the sleeveless.

I wouldn't worry about the sizing after you lose the weight. I'm 6'2" (disproportionately long torso) and 225 pounds. My XXL sleeveless fits perfectly.

I got mine yesterday. I'm 5'10" and about 158. Ordered a small long b/c thats what the chart showed. My lats and shoulders are way too big for it, and my neck is too thick for the neck opening. Sent it back today for a medium. Hope it gets here soon!!

Received mine early this week.  Vortex 3 John Large.  I am suppose to tri-it out tomorrow in OWS, but it may not happen due to people not being able to go.  We'll see.  If not I'll put a call out to anyone in Henry Hagg Lake Area of Portland, OR who might want to get in a short swim on Saturday or Sunday at Boat Ramp C.

BE CAREFUL.  I got an xterra less than a year ago..nice sale but now I need a new one.  The one I got last year ripped the second time I put it on.  after much hemming and hawing they replaced it.  I have had multiple small rips in the replacement.  I went to put it on yesterday...had it inside out and was pulling it on FROM THE INSIDE (yes I know how to put on a wetsuit no I do not have long fingernails yes my previous wetsuit was rip free with 4 years of use) and I put my entire hand thru it.  I'm SOOOO not happy.  I know of no one with an xterra who has not had problems with rips.  Cheep is good but if you have to replace it in less than a year not so much

Yeah, I've gotten lots of small tears in mine as well.  Get yourself some aquaseal, it fixes them up perfectly.

You might also find that if you soak the suit in water for a bit and then let it dry out, it will be easier to go on. They seem to be a little stiffer and a little less flexible when they have been sitting dry for a while. If it's still so tight after you've worn it in the water, maybe the fit isn't right for you....

Ordered a Vortex 3 sleeveless today.  I am 5'7 190 44 inch chest, so hopefully it fits.  I am kind of hard size to fit.  Great deal though....too hard to pass up!!

To answer the OP's fourth question: significantly hotter.

I ordered a Vortex 3 fullsuit, and it had its first taste o' the brine last Sunday. The only other wetsuit I've used is a sleeveless, and I notice a big difference in warmth. Not to the point where it was uncomfortable in the water (quite the contrary, in fact), but it was definitely warmer. Ocean temps out here are usually in the 60's during spring/summer, FWIW.

I really don't get how they use a height / weight chart to size but I gave it a shot.  If they used real numbers it would make more sense to me.
Example:  I saw a one piece tri outfit say their XL meant a 48" chest and a 38" waist.  Since I have a 48" waist and a 34" waist I would know that I need to size the larger of the two and expect the waist to be a little loose.  However, without that info, height/weight charts can be all sorts of different things in those two areas.  Not all guys have broad shoulders.  Some guys have narrow shoulders, small chests but beer guts and bigger waists.

It would seem that they are assuming that since it's for a "triathlete" they are of one body type?  Just guessing on that.

I ordered an Xterra sleeveless in XL.  I'm 5'11, 216.  It looks like that is the low end of the XL so I'm hoping it will fit.
