It's this Saturday Sept 19th. Anyone else doing this? It will be my first tri. I'm really looking forward to it but kinda freaked out all at the same time.

FWIW...this is probably the most offensive traiathlon name I've ever heard.

I kind of like it.

A late addition to my schedule...I've said it before, I will now say it again: I think the night-before dropoff policy blows. No one held a gun to my head so I'm doing this race willingly, but still...

To the OP and any others making this their first race, GOOD LUCK! (careful, these things are addictive).

+1 on the dropoff policy blowing. I'm not doing it partly because I don't have time to get up there and drop my bike off (and don't feel like driving 3 hours round trip TWICE for a 90 min race) and partly because I'm not feeling so hot.

I understand the reasoning but it's too much. It's not like it's an Ironman where there is a ton of stuff to sort. If they had decent guides for parking, racking your bike and getting your stuff on race day shouldn't be a problem.

I'm in!  2nd year at this race.  Definitely agree that the drop off is no good.  That combined with being the weekend before Augusta likely prevented it from filling up faster (if it's filled).  Lake Lanier filled, but at least the race is on a Sunday.  Maybe it'll get worked out for next year.  I hope so, since a chunk of the money goes to a good cause.

I'm gonna put on a race to support spinal cord injury research.

It's going to be called...

I think the bike drop off is a Lake Lanier policy because it is the same with Irongirl, the Lake Lanier sprint/Emerald Point and others at that venue.   It certainly does encourage folks to stay at the resort.

I ended my season early because of the drop off policy.  It is hard enough getting out for races, but to double the drive time is not right of a sprint or OLY.  I would throw in not very green.  Lots of carbon release having people drive twice.  I think Jim might re-think the approach if he heard from people.  Just a thought that complaining directly to the RD is better than in a forum. :-)

We signed up for the sprint and also bagged it because of the double trip.  As others have said, I'm sure in order for the RD to get the Tri there he had to show them some hotel revenue.  Having the drop off policy helps that out.

I was looking at the results and saw that like 6 people got DQ'd.  What was the deal with that?

I believe that some people got disqualified for not doing the entire run. At one point in the run, you went straight if you were finishing or turned right if you were on the first mile or so. It looks like some people just went straight and didn't run the whole course. There were plenty of signs and volunteers marking the turn.

I saw one person (that wasn't DQ'd) as having run an 11:45 5k.  It didn't really help but I hope the people below saw that they really are one higher in the rankings.

On a side note, before and after every race, I see tons of people on their bikes without their helmets on or without them strapped.  I know people have been DQ'd for that but not very many because people don't seem to be that concerned about it (not just newbies either).

There were two no-pass zones on high-traffic bridges..The RD was quite specific about what the penalty would be for a violation - a couple of folks got bagged for that.

Separately, there were more first-timers at this race than any I can ever remember doing before. I can never forget how jacked-up I was after my first race -all those years ago - so a huge shout-out to anyone on this board who got 'er done for the first time on Saturday.
