i am about to do Augusta and if i finish i will get a small one on my foot just below the ankle (my third and last tatoo). i like tattoos that are more artwork (symbolic) than text and actually have meaning unlike a tribal arm band or butterfly. mine are also small and in odd places that allow me to hide them and maintain a professional look.

if you felt odd about the m-dot, i guess you could always do a 70.3/ 140.6 tattoo.

The tattoo artist will look at your photo ID, pull up your race results there in the studio, and verify that it was, in fact, and M-dot branded race that you did. M-dot tattoos are so popular that there is now training and certification for tattoo artists to do this. You could go to a non-certified tattoo artist, but the "M" may be skinnier or wider than the official logo, and the "dot" all lumpy to try to get around trademark infringement. Anyways, you'll be told to leave and come back when you've done an official M-dot race. In the meantime, you are entitled to a Winnie-the-Pooh on your ankle.

Gaarryy - 2009-09-24 10:42 AM I think the ones where there is a swim/bike/run type tat are very cool... you could get the 140.6 somewhere on it.. then it shows IMHO that you are more of a tri person than the M-dot one and done.. 

If or when I get a M-dot I'd rather be able to have something that shows I've done more than one.  But that's just my opinion.  It was reinforced last week when someone new to our church was introduced to me since he was interested in tri's.. Turns out he signed up for IMKY and that is by his own words his first and only tri (also running race).  I'm not sure why that bothers me so much, but this guy went on and on telling everyone about his race next year...  It was a bit funny when I was asking about what type of training this guy was doing and he kept telling me that I wouldn't understand it, then a couple of friends asked "isnt' that the one you did last year?"   even then the guy wouldn't believe I do tri's.
