Anyone signed up for this race or thinking about it?  Apparently both the Try-a-Tri and the Sprint races are both almost sold out.  I'm excited to be doing my first Sprint.   I did the try-a-tri last year in the rain and loved it (the race, not the rain).  Hoping for better weather this year.

The sprint starts at 1:00pm - do people arrive before the first race or in between races?  They re-open registration at 11:30 and it seems like there wouldn't be a lot of time to get in and set up (I remember seeing huge lines last year).

I'm doing this race. Does anyone have any tips? I've heard talk about there being lots of hills.

It's not really that hilly.  It's constantly rolling on the bike but nothing major.  I've done all the races here.  Good venue but the water is pretty gross.  Not much shade on the run.

Not doing it this year.

The swim is pretty gross  - I remember goose crap oozing between my toes as I entered the beach.
The bike is pretty flat - a few rollers near the turn-around but nuthing special.
The run is a a little rolling though the conversation area.

The only 'tough' part is the transition - The run up from the beach is about 400m UPHILL. Expect a long T1. Also its on a grassy field. Last year it rained and the transition area was as muddy as a WWI battle field.

Good luck.

I am in for the sprint this year - did the Try a Tri last year.  The run was a little funny on the park roads but it was rolling but they weren't big hills.

I'm in for the Olympic again this year. This is a great site. I have done 3 races here. Missed last year Guelph 2 due to HIM at Muskoka. Never really noticed much goose crap and the weather was generally good. If you're doing up to a sprint you won't see much in the way of hills. Really it is only lightly rolling roads with a couple of short climbs. If you do any hill training at all it will be no problem. This is an excellent set up and well run race. The transition from the lake to the transition is an uphill run but from there the transition area is very compact and easy to get in and out of. The bike ride goes out of the park onto country roads. It would be great if they could repave the roads as they are a little rough but at least they are paved and no major potholes. The run goes through the park and has a few good but short hills. Well worth the effort to get there.

Come early and get a good spot in transition. I would get in early and enjoy the day. If there is a race before you just enjoy. You can't get into transition until the other race is completed but you can check in and watch the other racers on the course coming home and help cheer them to the finish

I'm doing Guelph sprint too!  Hoping it's not as sloppy and wet as last year!  The transition in from the swim was super slippery at the turn and there were a few rough wipe outs on the bike due to the rain... My husband di the Olympic distance the next day and it was gorgeous out!

It was all about making it through the swim last year... but we put an endless pool in this year and it's made a HUGE difference!

Okay, less than a week to go! Anyone else unhappy with the weather forecast? Yikes, that kind of heat and 1:00 start for the sprint it's going to be very toasty! And apparently windy!  I know, there's not much to do other than to HTFU, hydrate well and do as well as the day offers ... but Vic Du was pretty toasty and this looks to be hotter!

Totally worried about the weather here.  I would rather a rainy day than a super hot and humid one.  We are planning on going early in the day and staying in the shade trying to keep hydrated.  I really want to avoid lining up in the heat during the 11:30 - 12:45 registration period and then rushing around trying to set up transition and get a wetsuit on in time for the 1:00 pm start.

All I have seen is rain in the forecast...and that also sucks.

I am not at all prepared...I will look good but will be slow.

Good luck everyone.

I think I would prefer rain over heat.  Just make sure you have sun glasses for an overcast day and wear a hat if it is raining.

I wish everyone a great day. Wish I was more prepared but I always say that!

Nice post Rob.   You've said it all.   I'm registered for the Aqua/bike.    My knee is getting better but will have to wait till next year to do my 2nd Olympic tri.

Hope I can find you in crowd.   There's going to be ALOT of people!!!
