Subject: June Core Challenge!

OK, I want to get some company on my drive to finally get regular core work into the routine.  So, here is the challenge...get 4 core WOs per week in June.  Does not matter what WO routine.  crunches only, big gut busting WO, class...whatever.  The challenge is to get consistent!

Everyone knows they should do it.  Fasties, fishes, going short or going long, run only, HIM or IM...core is critical to all the efforts.  I have tried to get consistent and can't seem to get there.  I am now going to try peer pressure.  So, join me and see if you can get the core in shape in June.

Post here if you accept.  We will do a mid- month check in.

I'm in. I was doing pretty well over the winter and I'm embarrassed to say I haven't done any core work in months. I was making good progress and then fell off.

I will commit to a definite 3 WO's with a goal of 4.

I need definitions of what curtails core and how long--I just can't commit to an hour a day but 10-15 minutes several times a week, sure. I like to sprinklethe core into my other workouts== push ups, yoga poses and crunches through out the week.

Like today I did a weight workout and did 120 push ups--10 here/20 there etc, and some crunches with the medicince ball. Yesterday though I only did 50 push ups, no crunches. So anyway, be specific on what counts and doesn't count cause I think I am in. If I have to go to yoga 4 times a week I am out.

sorry, I am always the difficult one

That would have counted...just looking for consistency.   Core WO is what YOU define it as...maybe add a few crunches in for good measure?

Core workouts need not be long, you can get them done in 15 minutes ... or you could opt for a yoga or pilates class.

There are a bunch of different core exercises you can do at home.  A quick search netted this set:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yFtmkYcZEY

In.  I haven't done core stuff in a LONG time (other than circuit Fridays every couple of weeks).  I like the whole 15 minutes thing because I should be able to pull that off even if I have a toddler climbing on me.......but I will not be starting until the second week of June because I don't need to add any more misery to my HIM on Saturday and even baby core workouts hurt.

Great challenge - I'm in.  I plan to do p90x ab ripper 3x/week plus 1 day/week of core synergistics.  I've only been doing ab ripper 2 days per week and need the extra motivation...

Honest question.  Why would you work your core more than any other muscle group?  I do my chest, legs, back etc no more than 2x a week.  Why would i want to do my core more than that?

I won't lie that I need to focus on core work more but was just curious

really your not....15 minutes four times a week is only equal to a short ride.  Core is important for so many things I do not know where to start.  So, I would say give it a shot for a month and see what happens...

Exactly!  It also depends on how you define "core".  For me it's everything between the belly button and upper thigh - front AND back.  So, it's gluts, hip flexors, low back, AND abdominals...  I spend about 15 minutes 4X/week doing exercises that are synergistic: they work most of those areas at once.

Join the fun!

I added dolphin kicking to my long swim today as a nod to the core challenge.  May not count, but I could feel it.

Yes, that counts!  We had to do dolphin kick on our back a few weeks ago and it about killed me.  That's a great one, so now I try to incorporate it into the kick "choice" sets.
