By "gay" do you mean homosexual? If so, when did "gay" become the appropriate word when referring to homosexual women? I ask from a purely linguistic point of view. I've seen it creep into the mainstream and wonder when and how that happened. Did anyone get clearance from the LGBT lobby?

Why proclaim orientation?...  I figure everyone can be with who they want to be with and I really don't care.  It's not that big of a deal to me.

I'm straight (or not)  big dealio.

And while we're at it, when did "fag" go from meaning wood for kindling, to a cigarette, to a gay man?

Are there levels of gay?  I kind of thought it was a binary thing.  Kind of like being sorta-pregnant.

That's where I come from.  I pretty much just like people.
I hate authoritarians though.  I want to punch them in their authoritarian mouths when they start telling everyone what the can or can't do/be.

Just wondering....what defines really really gay, and not just gay, or even really gay?  :-)

Maybe she is looking for some gay friends or even better, some gay triathletes.  I don't see any harm in seeking out people who have something in common.  Perhaps the proclamation is to encourage others to say "yes I am gay".  So far it doesn't seem to be working (or there are no gays on the board - which we know is not true)!

A few years ago two of my friends announced they "Weren't THAT gay!"  The rest of us were like, how the he** can you be some level of gay, but they're pretty adamant about it.  Whatever, it seems to amuse them...

Oh and I'm not very gay, mostly straight.

Considering there are only two sexes I'm not sure how it could not be binary.

You are 0 and like 1s
You are 0 and like 0s
You are 1 and like 1s
You are 1 and like 0s
You are 1 and like 1s & 0s
You are 0 and like 1s & 0s

I guess technically the last two are trinary (no pun intended)

For the record I'm not making any judgments for or against.  Just trying to understand what the difference between gay and really, really gay is.

This is a decent explanation, IMHO anyway.  Although even it can be a little simplistic at times.

(eta: I don't know what the OP meant by "really, really gay."  but this is what comes to mind for me)

Interesting.  I'm still trying to get past this however:

"Predominantly heterosexual, only incidentally homosexual"

Maybe it's the use of the word "incidentally".

"Me, I'm straight.  What, that guy I slept with?  Oh that's incidental."

Definitely straight, but probably not 100%.

Reminds me of a comedian, forget her name, who said something like:

"I've realized I'm neither straight, gay, or bi.  I'm just a slut."  ROFL!
