Lethbridge, Alberta | Subject: Double Your Pleasure, July - December It's that time again! To the best of my recollection this was first done by the bear in '07, then KathyG in '08, and again last year by wgraves7582. The challenge is simple: ride your bike one mile more in the second six months of the year than you did in the first six months. I believe the option was added last year to double all your sports, and that works too if you like, but the heart of the challenge was the bike mileage. No teams, it's every triathlete for themselves, and no prizes besides the bragging rights. I hope someone else can jump in with some kind of list keeping. So, if I'm not going to take care of it, why am I posting the challenge? I just want to make sure it doesn't get forgotten. My training is way behind this year so for me this time the challenge should be a piece of cake ... mmm cake ... what? ... oh! sorry, where was I? ... Right, the challenge. Who's in? |

Lethbridge, Alberta | Subject: RE: Double Your Pleasure, July - December So for myself, my biking this year to the end of June is a fraction under 432 miles. Bear's original challenge was to ride one mile more, or 433, in the second half of the year. That means I'm committing to 865 total bike miles this year, by the end of December 2010. My log is set to metric so I'll have to see at least 1,392.1 kilometers. Since I did almost four times that in '09 it should be easy, but it's not been happening yet so maybe this challenge will help. |

Extreme Veteran 503 Central Iowa | Subject: RE: Double Your Pleasure, July - December I want to do this a little differently, if I may. I only have 326.47 miles so far this year. I got on my bike late and just haven't been getting out there as often as I would like. Barring some freak early snowstorm, I am capable of doing twice that number of miles in the second half of the year. So... April-June I did 326.47. July-December I plan 652.94. Total mileage for the year 979.41. |

I slacked on my swim and bike for the first half of the year... Actually, I'm STILL slacking on the swim! So I'm thinking of doubling my mileage for the S/B, and just straight up repeating my mileage for the run. With that, my second half of the year goals are: Bike: 1680.7 miles (2521.05 miles by year end) Run: 508.07 miles (1016.14 miles by year end) Swim: 34000 meters (51000 meters by year end) |

Subject: RE: Double Your Pleasure, July - December I'll give this a shot...I'll try to double the bike and triple the run and quadruple the swim.
So goals for second half would be: 2000mi on the bike 4031mi total 110mi run 167mi total 30000M swimming 40000M total Edited by oweiss 2010-07-01 4:54 PM |

So that puts me at about: bike: 2150km run: 1161km swim: 328 km Well...that total is including a bit from today...Oh well..I'll just do the extra bit anyways I go back to "competitive" swimming come Sept. "competitive" because I used to actually be and I'm attempting a comeback so to speak. So if that all goes to plan, the swim mileage should be easy |

Expert 1023 Ft Gordon, GA | Subject: RE: Double Your Pleasure, July - December I'm in with a few modifications: Year-to-date (through July 1): 2010 totals Bike: 141h 42m 23s - 2600.91 Mi Run: 30h 06m 02s - 218.59 Mi Swim: 13h 03m 49s - 32181.4 Yd Obviously low on swim and run. Once I get back home in late OCT my cycling will most likely drop to more time spent with family so I'll go with goals for next six months as follows: Bike: 1800 miles Run: 360 miles Swim: 50000 yards (yeah, I am not a big fan of swimming!) Good to have a plan! |

Veteran 222 Fresno, CA | Subject: RE: Double Your Pleasure, July - December A little late to the this challenge party, but I'm going to give it a shot. 2010 through the end of June looks like this:
I'm looking at doubling +1 the bike and the run-- I really only just started on the swim, so if I didn't double it something would be way wrong Looks like I'll need to knock out at least 30 miles a week on the bike and about 18 miles a week on the run to meet the challenge. Seems do-able, but who the heck knows what lies ahead...? |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Double Your Pleasure, July - December I am in for this. Seeing I just started back training in mid May, I will shoot for the 4x challenge. My 100 miler yesterday was already 1/4 of my yearly total to date. My 6700 yds swimming this year will be a tough one to quadruple though Guess the 4224 at IMWI will help with that. |

Did much better on the run--but I have two HMs in the fall, so that's to be expected...84.93 miles. Cum total: 820.74 and 509.01 respectively. |

Once it gets cold, I suspect I will be biking less and hitting the pool more. August will be run-heavy as I ramp up my training for my fall marathon. Biking will probably be around the same. I was thinking of training for an open water swim race in Sept but not sure when I can find the time for more swim training. So I might just save all my swimming for when it gets too cold to bike outdoors! |
