Subject: RE: How do you feel after riding 100 milesMy first century was an organized community ride and I was ready to get out of the saddle around mile 70, but got a bit of a second wind after 80. (That seems to be a pattern for some reason, actually. ) Could have run, but that wasn't the point of the day. I've bricked after a handful of 100+ mile rides (at least one of them with a lot of climbing ) during training for 2 IMs since then...no long runs, but in every case, I was surprised at my pace: Adrenaline was flowing and my legs had been going at an 80-90 bpm cadence for 6-7 hours and the problem was more holding back than being able to run. Not that I wasn't tired, just that my engine was revved up, so to speak. I can't see feeling "refreshed," though. In my last IM, I came off the bike in bad shape (dehydrated, cramping ), but still went out and ran the first 6.5 miles okay (until the dehydration caught up to me again ). |
