FS Series
Total Time = 1h 02m 2s
Overall Rank = 4/103
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 1/16
Pre-race routine:

Packed up everyone the night before. This is hubby's first tri so I wanted to get everything ready so he only needed to focus on his day.
Got up at 3:00, ate an energy bar, and bagel w/p'nut butter, and drank a coke for sugar and caffeine. Loaded the car. Woke the kids at 4:30 and we were on our way.
Event warmup:

Nothing much. Jogged a little and swam a few laps.
Swim
  • 03m 58s
  • 250 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was #11. Guy behind me was looking really strong so I told him just tap my feet and I will stop. I was suprised the guy never caught me. However, I caught the guy in front of me on the first lap and he would not let me pass...I tapped his toes two times. Narrow lanes prevented me from passing mid-lane and the dude did flip turns so I couldn't pass at the turn - rather had to stay out of his way. We both passed a girl at lap 7...but this guy would not let me pass. I run into this every time I do a pool swim...AND I SUBMIT CORRECT TIMES!
What would you do differently?:

May lie about my swim time - ha. No, I wouldn't do that, but it is frustrating when someone doesn't let you pass.
Transition 1
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

I was slow in transition. Not sure why.
Bike
  • 32m 54s
  • 10 miles
  • 18.24 mile/hr
Comments:

I was happy with this ride. The course was only 10 miles, but it was really tough. I was only passed by two guys....yea me (I always get passed by tons of people)!
Oh, I did throw up (in my mouth) twice during the bike - both times I was pushing it up hill...guess I really did work it :)
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Run
  • 25m 57s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

I didn't take my watch to the race. I didn't know what to expect so I didn't want to focus on my watch/time but rather wanted to run listening to my body. I had no idea where I was (time/pace wise). Would I have gone faster had I known my pace at the time....possibly. Would that have backfired before the end...possibly. Will never know, but I am ok with it.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Grabbed a drink...didn't taste too good.
Met up with my kids and waited for my incredible husband to finish his first triathlon.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need to train more. School starts soon and we will get back to a "normal" schedule.

Event comments:

This was a fun but tough race. The distance was short, but the constant hills on the bike and run make this a tough/challenging race. I loved it!

Finish Strong really puts on great races.

My only complaint is the incorrect swim times & getting stuck behind folks...but I really don't know what can be done in that case. Everything (that FS had control of) was spot on.

We were lucky today that we did not have the heat or humidity that we have been having for the summer.

I have decided that drowning the slow people in front of you in the pool is not unsportsman-like conduct!! I had the same issue. I saw #10 before the race and KNEW he was going to be a problem for you. There is no way he was going to swim 1:10/100! Great race and great results. Wes too. Enjoyed talking with him. My kids thought you came from Charlotte and were happy when I told them you live in Cary, only 30 minutes away. They had a good time with your three!

Nicely done...and now you got the hubby hooked so you can spend as much $$$ as you want on all the cool "tri" toys and he will understand!   Laughing  We know your real motive!

Awesome race, congratulations!! Totally sucks about the pool guy -- why are people such a-holes about that? Do the RDs announce before the race to let people pass if they touch your toes? Maybe they should emphasize that, or threaten to assign a penalty if you don't let someone pass... That bites. But way to rock the bike and run. You are amazing!!!
