Hey everyone, what are the biggest triathlons in Ontario? And approx how many participants? I was wanting to come out from BC (obviously not this year!) but was wanting some larger ones. Any part of ON is fine, or even south-western Quebec.

thanks!

Well, most tris around here have caps but there are three popular series

Trisport - subaru series
Multisport triathlon series
Somersault

The first two are mostly in southern ontario while somersault is in Eastern Ontario.

Many of the races in the first two are very popular around here (I haven't done any of the Somersault) and particularly Guelph Lake, and Gravenhurst.  Many of them do sell out but not all.  Not sure of the distance you're looking for Muskoka 70.3 ...

Any other thoughts?

Coteau du lac in Quebec is a big one in late June that seems to attract a lot of big names. Go zip lining at arbraska and the beach at St. Zotique while you're there.

Here are a couple of links:

http://triathlon-soulanges.com/

http://www.arbraska.com/index.php?lang=french

http://www.st-zotique.com/plage/ete/default_e.htm

All are within 30 minutes of one another (25 if you drive a la quebecois)

If you mean biggest in terms of # of particpants, I think Muskoka 70.3 has the largest # for a single race.  1,335 in 2009

Cool, thanks for the tips so far!

Seems that the Subaru series is the most popular from what I've found, especially Peterborough and Muskoka, and then the Muskoka 70.3 as well.

Esprit Montreal looks pretty big as well, for something in Quebec......

The Esprit is a fun race  (did the Oly in 2007) - swimmimng in the Olympic Rowing basin and cycling on the F1 track was a hoot.

Peterborough & Muskoka are big races.  The Subaru races series may be bigger than the HSBC races but don't dismiss the HSBC. The HSBC Welland Half Iron is a world class race with some very good profesionals competing.
