I heard symphonies in my head as the school appeared out of the gloom and descended,in the hundreds upon hundreds, for 2 or 3 minutes, then disappeared into the gloom again.

Great photo! What level of concern is required with these type of shark? thanks. Absolutely, 100% zero, at least in this environment. They mass on open ocean pinnacles such as Cocos and the Galapagos, scientists think to breed, although no one has ever seen it. They are actually very shy and you are very lucky to get one to come close to you. That usually involves being all by yourself, at 120 feet or so, hiding behind a rock, holding your breath. Once you move or breathe out, they usually scatter. There's another dive at Cocos with feeding white tips at night. There's one location (probably many, but this is one site ), where thy school at night and hunt on the reef, and when the pack sees a fish, they go freaking crazy. Severa sharks will case a fish into a hole, only to get taken out the other side. And you are right down amongst them, hundreds of them, and they couldn't care less that you are there. One of, if not the most, amazing dives I've ever done. Fish found |
