Pre-race routine:

Event warmup:

Ran about a mile and swam about 200 yards
Swim
  • 14m 36s
  • 800 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was very windy and lots of boats, so there were some big waves. First race without the wetsuit. Went pretty well. I didn't push it very hard because it was wavey and I hadn't race without the wetsuit bbefore.
The course had to be short I am not that fast. I think I was the last male out of the water. There were only about 15, mostly women and even Nicole Deboom was racing.
What would you do differently?:

Go harder now that I am comfortable with out the wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 00m 24s
Comments:

Very quick without the wetsuit was nice.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 19m 3s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

This was my fastest 5k ever. In a Tri or not. I felt real good and caught several people. I seemed to finish 3rd but didn't get a medal. Oh well. It was fun talking to Nicole and Shannon was there too. We talked for a while as well.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some vitamin water and watched the awards before I had to leave to pick up my son.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing

Event comments:

Good mid week race series. They could use some food though.

Well at least you're in good company. And at the risk of being a bit of a chauvinist (I'm apologizing in advance), at least the view was probably good!

Yeah, what he said!!!

Absolutely no shame in being beat by Nicole Deboom; besides I'm sure you were just trying to keep from hurting her feelings by blowing by her any time you felt like it

Great race aside from holding back And to set a PR - Props to ya!! That's a serious 5k pace.

Yeah, the rest of the field just figured you were trying to be polite! After all, Nicole was billed at the "honored guest."

Nice race. That's a pretty respectable swim time, especially considering conditions and that you weren't wearing a wetsuit. And of course you smoked everyone on the run.
