Well, ok.

Having already gone off about my dog on another thread, I thought maybe the kitties deserved some love.

Look out - Fish! is coming next!

Well the cat does not want as much love as the dog. Also the cat does not jump me at 5am and want to go for a run. The fact the dog does makes it a love/irritation relationship! She knows what's best but I am not always in a mental place to appreciate it

Cuz I didn't know this thread existed.

This will be my first time attaching pix; not sure if it's going to work. But if it does, the big orange male is Zephyr, and the little bitchy black tortoiseshell is Xena.

Huh, the scale was changed after I posted the pics. Any hints on the maximum width for submitted images so the pix aren't stretched in the future?

Oh, and here's one more.

I am away from home quite a bit. I am in a ground floor apt in a neighborhood that seems to have a lot of cats already.  I am on a bit of a budjet already and I'm not sure how permanent my current lifestlye is.

Hmmm... well, probably at least some of those cats you see are either abandoned or feral, so why couldn't you put out some food, and make friends with some of them?

If you adopt a cat, IMO, you are responsible to find it a new home in the case you can't keep it.  I adopted an older cat once, she was really sweet, but she died after about a year (she was really old probably about 15 when I adopted her, and never seemed to really recover from being abandoned by her previous "owners" and that was tough - so just be aware of that factor as well.

Maybe you could foster a cat?

I don't know about your area, but around here there are lots of cat shelters that need volunteers and they are always short on space and looking for people to put cats up till the find a permenant home. The satisfaction of a pet, without the commitment....might be just the thing for your lifestyle.

I'd love to do that with dogs, but with the menagerie I've got going now I can't swing it.

Milo's an adult stray from the shelter and he's an amazing little guy. I'm a big proponent for adopting adult animals -- they are the first to get euthanized since eveyone wants kittens and puppies. The trick is to not go in with pre-concived ideas about looks or age but to ask the volunteers and staff about who's been there the longest, and who they like the best.

Cat's are so adaptable though...my other cat has traveled all over the country - even flew from the east coast to the west once. She's just rolled with the punches.

A little chant that I do with my bitchy cat goes like this: Hey, little ittty bitty sh**tty pretty spitty kitty! She loves it.

Chris, I liked that photo of Max on the patio (?) so much that I have put it up as my wallpaper on my home computer.

I wish that could I add a photo of Darwin, my 5 year old long-haired orange tabby, he is the most beautiful cat in the world!!!!  I do have pics in my digital camera but keep forgetting to having downloaded onto a CD ... sigh..... :-(

Hey Laura,

I think you know that I volunteer with the cats at the SPCA right. We definitely need foster parents. I think that might fit your situation well. In fact, I have an poster sitting on my desk. I'll give you an idea of what it says.

LOVE ANIMALS BUT CAN'T MAKE A LONG-TERM COMMITMENT?

A foster pet could be a sick or injured animal that needs to be nursed back to health. It could be orphaned kittens needing to be bottle-fed. It could be an abandoned mother cat with her kittens that need a home until the kittens are old enought to be adopted. Or it could be an adult cat or dog needing socialization. We try to match your foster pet to your experience & ability. You provide a temporary home for an animal in need.

I'm off to find pictures of my cat,
Jen
