Subject: Revolution3 Triathlon - Quassy 70.3 : Official Thread Now if I am counting correctly, today is exactly 100 days till Rev3 Quassy. I did this race last year. If you have not done this race, or are not familar with the course - please read my Race Reports, and the other Race Reports.  http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=211804 I've done a lot of different triathlons and running races from Philly to Rhode Island, none (except for Harryman) compare to this course. Aside from the swim and the last few miles of the run,  you are either going UP or DOWN. There is absolutely NOTHING flat about this course.  Pro Mike Lovato sums it up pretty well :)  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rCvbbMhAMs SO WHO ELSE IS IN? Edited by Dream Chaser 2011-02-24 2:22 PM |

Hopefully can improve upon last years finish. Looking to shave about 15 mins off, which is a lot, but my bike and run speeds are definately improving. |

I'm taking a pass this year but will get back there someday. Mostly focused on Lake Placid this year and being well rounded. Not too much racing this summer....going to have my second daughter arrive May 25 |

No Timberman for me this year, trying to keep it local, just changed jobs here in NYC so I'm trying to feel my way into it and balance some training. Many congrats on your daughter that's great news . Interestingly when I added Quassy to my race list, the Racetalk took me to another Quassy thread and Ray Brown is on there, doing the race also. Great to see you're doing well hope we did not hijack Dream Chasers thread too much....... |

I believe there were only a couple of people that did this. One gentleman I know for sure did the double, and the announcer kept mentioning him and made a pretty big deal of it. And I remember seeing the guy doing the double and he was humorously second-guessing why he did it. I would highly-recommend reading some Race Reports and/or checking out the course ahead of time before signing up for the double. The swim is cake as it's a 1-loop lake wave start. So little contact and easy sighting. The Bike AND the Run however are RoLLeR CoAsTeRs. There is NOTHING flat about this course |

I was just down in Austin for a week of training, my bike's been taking off this offseason which I'm pretty psyched about. Can't wait for this race! Hope everyone's having a great offseason, spring is almost here, just a few more weeks! |

Great to see you're doing well hope we did not hijack Dream Chasers thread too much....... Hey Simon and Jay! Awesome that you're both doing this race this year, I'm pretty psyched for it after a few friends had nothing but good things to say after last years Quassy. Simon - I'm sticking with this thread. For some reason the RaceLink was taking me to that other one, but now it's taking me to this one...so I guess I'm sticking here :). Also, there's tons of time to get back into shape, once the spring hits and you're outdoors for long rides again you'll be right back on form. As I said above I was just in Austin and it's amazing what some warm weather will do to your training! Jay, congrats on the baby! That's gonna make for an interesting/hectic couple of weeks, huh? It'll all be worth it though, and as I said I've heard nothing but good things about Quassy. Actually, my two friends who did this race last year did it as part of a buildup for LP and they said it was perfect timing and a suitably hard course to really get some grueling race 'training' in. Oh, I'm also getting a new TT bike...well, not really but kinda. I'm selling the 56 frame I was put on last year and picking up a 54 (same year/model) as I've found I'm much better suited. Can't wait to see what a PROPERLY fitting bike will do to my power/speed!

Hoping the hills here in West Virginia will get me ready for the course, and hoping the drivers here in West Virginia don't knock me off course. How many of you will visit the amusement park on Saturday? I know, time on one's feet and all that, but maybe just for a little while??? I mean, free tickets, right? |

Its not really an amusement park -- more like a kiddie park, pretty low key (although I love the arcade and the corny prizes). |

I just bought a planet bike super blinky tail light ( http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Bike-Blinky-Super-Flash/dp/B0046MNMK8  and I always wear a flourescent vest or BRIGHT jersey cause I don't want the Long Island drivers to knock me off track either!! Make sure you do everything you can to stay visible. It AMAZES me how many people I see cycling, wearing all black, and some without helmets! As for Quassy, like Kaburns said - it's a kiddie park. There's the pirate ship and a few other rides you can go on, but 75% of the rides are for 10 & under. Good news is: the Race Expo is pretty darn cool. |

Veteran 139 | Subject: RE: Revolution3 Triathlon - Quassy 70.3 : Official Thread Hey Ray, welcome to the (hopefully official ) thread. Great to hear you're training well and looking forward to getting a new ride. Your week of training must have been awesome! I'm tipping along on the training, first longish (2.5 hour) outdoor ride on Saturday with some decent hills. It was just nice to get out on a decent day and enjoy some sunshine! There was still some snow mountains on 9W and a nice 10 degree drop in temp going down to Piermont which made me wish I'd brought a wind breaker. I've read Bobby's (Dream Chaser) report from last year and it seems like this is a tough course and that the bike is a hilly beast. It looks significantly hillier than Timberman. Anyone on this thread done both Timberman and Quassy 1/2's who can comment? I'll be at race with wife and 9 year old daughter so the amusement park is most definitely on the cards. |
