Now that the teams are set.....what does COJ think?

The best team ever bought vs. The scrappy veterans?

Both teams were bought, Riley was just smarter with his investment.

Needless to say that i'm rooting for Miami, and will be at game 1 and 2 doing my best to loose my voice.

As a Bulls fan I HATE the heat with a passion.  I just want somebody to knock the smug look off Lebron's face.  Needless to say go Mavs.

Side note.  Has there ever been an athlete like Lebron, that has gone from being well like to hated by everybody outside of his team's home town?

Being from TX, I guess I'll go with the Mavs.  If it had been the Spurs, I would have gone with the Heat.

Either way, I am much more interested in hockey and our little IHL team here in Houston...GO AEROS!!!!

I'm a college basketball fan and find it painful to watch the NBA games....I tried to watch the Mavs/OKC..and then the last 2 Bulls/Heat games...but the execution and shooting is just awful to watch....

Half the time there is no pass on an offensive possession - just one guy dribbling and shooting - the rest is the infamous pick and roll and one guy shooting...

I used to enjoy the MJ Bulls days, or the Magic lakers etc....there was a semblance of a high level of the game....now it seems mediocre and the shooting is dreadful....and I wont opine on the defense...

Heat vs Mavs....I'll route for Dirk..at least he seems like an elite player

I can't see David Stern ever letting mark cubans team win,,   and now I'm nervous since people are pulling for the mavs,, there were picked to lose in the 1st round, then the 2nd and finally the 3rd.   Now people are picking them to win.. Yikes !!

it will be some great games with the match ups of the big 3, then a drop off vs  Dirk and a larger, better supporting cast though. and this is the last basketball we will seen for a while with the upcoming lockout.

I hope the Mav's win not only for Dirk, but for Jason Kidd, Shawn Marion, Peja.  etc.  lots of vets that were pretty good in their day and either never made it to the finals or just couldnt' win it.

But the Heat are great floppers, Even the annoucers in thier games were comparing them to going down like a euro soccer player.  If the refs buy into that and give the Heat the little touch fouls they will win it on the line.

Come on, the last 3 minutes of the game last night were a blur to the Bulls and I predict that same clueless look will be on the Mavs faces very soon.    I honestly think the Bulls would have beet the Mavs as well, just not a strong showing out of the West this year.

Conspiracy theories?  Whoever thinks that DS dictates who wins is just looking for something to grab on.

If the Mavs wouldnt be playing the heat i would be rooting for them, i like dirck and cuban and most of the players they have.  Unfortunately they are playing my hometown teams.

Umm so the Heat advantage is because they flopp, Mavs have also done that.  The Heat just attacks the basket and earns the benefit of the doubt as well, instead of just settling for jump shots.....Ask Chicago.

As a Celtics fan, I don't have a dog in the hunt.  I'm pulling for the Mavs for a few of reasons:

  1. I'm in TX.
  2. I'd like Dirk to win a ring and I think this is his last chance.
  3. I like Mark Cuban.  His schtick gets a little old sometimes but he has a true passion for the game, which is rare among owners.

LeBron will get his but I don't think this is the year.  The Heat are only going to get better and I think that they'll win multiple rings in the next 5 years but don't know that they have the bench to pull it off this year.

I watched parts of every game in the conference finals and have these observations:

- Miami's shooting has been atrocious, like below 40% for most games. Chicago's best in league record was based on tough D but I just don't see how anyone could say Miami is peaking at the finals. Dallas is playing better now than at any point since Caron Butler went down. BTW, still a chance Butler will play this series but Carlisle may not want to disrupt the chemistry.

- Rumors about Dallas' toughness are put to rest after the LA series. There was tons of physical play throughout and I never saw Dallas back down in least.

- Dallas definitely has more guys it could look to for scoring than Miami but on any night, two of Miami's stars are probably going for 30. The trick is to keep the third guy from doing same..If Marion can stay in front of LBJ and hold him to, say, 25ppg, and Chandler matches with Bosh, it comes down to Wade and he is not playing that well through the conf finals. OTOH, Wade pretty much beat Dallas singlehandedly five years ago, so...

My team was out in the semis, so no dog in this fight but it looks like Dallas' year. Anyway, Miami is never going to win the hearts and minds of the purists so long as they recycle the 'everyone doubted us' schtick. I'd really like to tell them that if they, Miami, didn't win, it's a fail.

I'll be watching, for sure.

Flop,, getting calls... seriously.. I like the Heat.  I do. The are great to watch.   But like you, by the sound of it. I just like the mavs more since they are my home team and I have season tickets.

But Wade get more touch fouls away from the basket or driving than anyone in the leauge. I think the refs antipate contact and Wade vears around it, but the call gets made anyway.    Lebron actually does get fouled though on many of his drives, It's debatable on some if they are blocks or charges where he initiated the contact, and it's tough to call with the speed of the game.    Yet Dirk gets mauled 15ft away from the hoop with no calls, just attempting to get position.

I'm sure you missed Lebron falling down like a boxer getting knocked out last night, when the replay clearly showed D. Rose's hand was over a foot away from him. Even the annoucers were laughing at his act.    It's those type of plays that I dislike from any team.  They rescinded a Tech on tyson in the playoffs when it was clear that hearden just fell without contract.   But the play and very poor call did effect the game.  IMHO if the leauge reviews a play like that, rescinds the call, the flopper should be fined or giving the tech, since it's becoming more of a distraction.

Part of me thinks the Mavs match up well if Marion can cover LeBron and Chandler on Bosh (like what was posted earler).  However offense beats defense in Basketball, and I would not put money against the Heat.  If the Heat win it all this year they might as well hand them next years trophy as well.

Miami shot a 45% for the entire series against the number one defense in the league, same percentage that Dallas shot against OKC that is not even top 10 in defense.  Miami had a top 3 defense, something that Dallas has not encountered.

The only physicality that the lakers offered where the cheap shots at the end of the games out of frustration, besides that the lakers just rolled over, you can’t compare the intensity of the games between Miami , Chicago and Boston to that series, not even close.

How did that logic work for Chicago, they always kept a guy in check and the lost.  The problem that Dallas will encounter is that they will play a team that can score and play defense, they can bet you running or playing half court.  If you think Marion can cover LBJ one on one you are up for a rude awakening, Chicago has way better defenders and couldn’t do it.

You are right, the “purists” don’t like that friends made the decision to play with each other, but it is ok for teams to get rid of players when they are not producing or trade them anytime they want.

I agree, he does, but no one in the league attacks the basket more than him.  Like in every profession you build a reputation and you get the benefit of the doubt, has always been like that.  Dirk also gets the same calls, the guy just shot 24 free throws in one game, lot of teams don’t even shoot that collectively.  If you don’t like Miami, that’s fine, most people don’t, but those argument don’t hold any weigth.

I didn’t miss it, he flopped like a soccer player, and he knew it, he winked at his coach.  Are you gonna tell me he is the only one that does it?  That’s super prevalent in this league.  Players sale the charge, and the blocking fouls like there is no tomorrow.  But to say that Miami has an advantage because of that is crazy talk.
