I used to love swinging on the swings as a kid.  Now that I'm an adult, the mere sight of folks swinging on the swings gets me nauseous.  Has this happened to anybody else in BT Land?  I have no other motion sickness that I am aware of...never had a problem with cars, planes, or boats.  Weird, eh?  Has anybody else lost their tolerance of swinging???

I see what you did there.

I used to ride the stand-up centrifuge ride when I was a teeneager. Face out. Not gonna happen ever again.

FoggyGoggles - 2011-08-29 6:56 PM No, but I realized after taking my son down a couple of spiraly slides yesterday that I caught a little vertigo. Grown-ups shouldn't play with kids toys.

I think you're right.  I used to love the ol' sit n' spins...honestly, I'd probably vomit my brains out if I tried that again!

Extreme  motion sickness for me.  Playground equipment would not be good.

Dog sitting over the weekend for a neighbor. Decided to try the trampoline in the yard.  2 bounces and I had to lie down

Swinging is still fun, but sadly, real swings are hard to find.  You know the kind of swings that were around when we were kids.  Looooong chains, like 15+ feet long, so you get good air.  Now the chains are five feet long, and the swings are surrounded by rubber cushions with air bags.  Soon children will be required to put on helmets when venturing within ten feet of these swings with five foot chains.

I can't believe fall protection is not required for the jungle gym. Maybe I need to talk to my legislator.

Agreed. I have never been afraid of roller coasters. In fact, I find them boring to mildly amusing at most. Compared to racing downhill they are lame. But, my sister made me go on one over the summer. When I got off, I was mildly motion sick. That was a first.

The rides that just spin were off my list a few years ago.

I used to ride roller coasters back to back to back.  I recall as a kid at Busch Gardens riding 5 times in a row once on a very slow day at the park.

Now with my 10 year old I ride one and then "daddy needs a moment".  He of course is ready to go again and again and again...

Getting old sucks.

Will CD's next post be:

1) Which sandals go best with my black calf-high socks?

2) Which restaurant has the best 4pm early bird specials?

3) My new slacks, pull them up to my nipples? or just my sternum?

I can still swing. Even on the shorter swings it is a good time. Haven't been on a long one forever, wouldn't even know where to find one.

I did a summer somersault onto the couch the other day and was so dizzy from that one.  I decided at the age of 35 I no longer need to do them

One of my favorite things to do as a kid was ride my bike with my dad and sister down to the local emelmentary school where they had huge swings with the 15 foot chains. In fact I broke my arm in two bailing out of a swing once. (It was always my dad yelling "Bail Out!" at the top of the swing that encouraged this behavior, now that I think about it, he must have got some enjoyment out of watching me try to kill myself... hmmm... )

I got nostalgic once in college and tried to swing again. Yup, got sick, couldn't believe it. Guess I'll have to have a kid so I can get pleasure out of watching them jump off the swing.

I’m ok with swings, but any kind of spinny amusement park ride makes me nauseous.

With rollercoasters, it’s not the flying around that gets me, it’s at the end when the coaster comes back into the station and slams to a halt. Something about that sudden stop makes me turn green immediately.

Great stuff!

1) I regularly leave the pool area wearing my "just spun-dry baggy red swimtrunks complete with white undershirt and dress socks with brown dress shoes, toweled off hair to boot!

2)me and my fam eat dinner at 4:00.

3) I haven't reached that stage yet!

Life is good.

Do you have all the Pat Boone, jim Neighbors and John Denver 8-tracks? Some BT'ers just scored Neil Diamond tickets: You are jealous!

Hey Pitt, never listened to Boone or Neighbors, but Denver's and Diamond's hits rock!  Trivia:  GNR's axeman, DJ Ashba, performed at Neil Diamond's 70th birthday party.  Great stuff.

There are still some of those swings around, at least in our parks. I've always encouraged my kids to "bail out", even turning it into a game to see who can go farther. Basically a fun way of teaching them to take controlled risks. I have some great video of it.

I've always been prone to motion sickness. Spinning is my kryptonite. This sucked growing up as I spent my summers living within listening distance to an amusement park. Now Dramamine is my friend. I can go on any ride.
