Okay, I'm from New York and I've gotta say...being a Yankees fan is like cheering for the sun to rise. In what way is it exciting? You have a bunch of mercenaries playing for all-mighty dollar in pinstripes and winning to regularly for it to really be fun anymore. Maybe it's because my Dad was there when they couldn't lose the pennant if they tried. I'd cheer for the Mets, if I didn't feel like I could run the team better. Now being an Astros fan, there's entertainment for you! Magic number is 2, baby! Underdog THIS!

I forgot Clemens is playing gratis. Sorry but unless you are Devils Ray fan your team has hired mercanaries. It just happens that the Yanks have more resources and can spend more. But money doesn't necessarily = winning (Marlins, D-Backs, Twins, Indians, A's for good, Mets, Dodgers etc for bad...). Just look at the Yanks this year - they wouldn't be in chase without the call ups and bargain players they found.

But back to the present... Yanks-B-Sox, last weekend of the year...

Oh, in no way am I saying that these guys are saints...but Clemens DID play for peanuts last year, and Pettite came for reasons other than cash...plus, other than a broken down centerfielder, name a player on the Yankees who's been there half as long as Biggio.

Granted, the Yanks made some amazing personnel decisions (they've used 50 some players??? that's some juggling!)...but I'm saying, year after year, their chance for winning is extremely good. It's hard to cheer for those guys.

But let's agree: we can only be so lucky if this postseason overall is as amazing as the last two year's have been. For pure, amazing love-of-the-game baseball, it doesn't get any better than this!

Except for the '81-'95 stretch (before Bernie Baseball, Jeter, Posada, Moe, Tino...) when they didn't make the playoffs they've been there almost as much as the Braves, but I can understand how everyone else would root against them - But as a Yankees fan: Go Yanks!!!!

I was upset when they let Pettite go but I'm glad to see he's been having success with you guys. I was hoping for a Houston-NY matchup last year. Maybe this will be the year. Should be an exciting weekend and playoffs.

Let's Go Mets!

This is actually a foot-in-mouth experience for me. I work nights, 5pm to 7am. If anyone knows the joys of the sunrise, it should be me!

But that still doesn't make cheering for the Yankees acceptable.

Hmmm. Good point, thats something to think about. Since $ spent = guaranteed wins the answer must be to spend even more next year!! How much do you think it will take to lure Andru Jones away? We need a center fielder...

Exciting baseball is exciting baseball, no matter whether they underachieved and clawed and scraped or have a smaller payroll and everything just clicked. Go Yanks!!

I'm goin to have to agree with a few others on here that

THE YANKEES SUCK. With an all-star callibur team year in and year out you'd think they would have clinched 3 weeks ago. I understand your injuries and pick-up excuses but come on now. Your best Shortstop is playing 3rd. The Yankess have become the team where washed-up allstars go to die and get paid big time money.

Never could stand them but, If Steinbrenner wants to spend a crazy amount of money on his players and contribute to the luxury tax, then by all means spend away. These other owners who are the recipeient of the luxury tax dollars don't spend it on players anyways.

And would someone please knock out the White Sox in the first round? I can't stand them, their fans, or their stadium. Be it Yankees or Boston or whomever else I will root hard for that team to knock out the sox.

Fire away.

Well don't get me started on trading away prospects for aging stars... I was actually not juping up and down when they got Randy Johnson. Steinbrenner doesn't seem to have as many people around to talk him out of stupid decisions as he did when they assembled the Bernie-Jeter-Posada-Rivera-O'Neill core.

Seems to me the White Sox are doing a good job of trying to eliminate themselves without any outside help.

I'm not a Sox fan by any means but they were one of two fundamentally sound baseball clubs at the beginning of the year in playing small ball and getting players around the bases. The other being the STL Cardinals. Not going to get started on this team either.

I'll agree that the Yankees were tough a few years back playing hard nosed baseball. But the last couple of years Steinbrenner seems to me that he has been trying to fix something that wasn't exactly broke. My personal opinion is that there are to many dollar signs in the locker room right now for the Yankees to win anything big. To me, through the media here in the Midwest, it seems like its a "You take care of yours and I'll take care of mine" attitude and that doesn't win games. Yeah you have a lot of great players but they just don't seem to mesh well.

Too many leaders and Ideas on the team. I wish the Sox would have lost today. That would have made it a great day for baseball but they won and clinched today.

but Now I have to root for anyteam playing the Sox.

Exactly - and its not a coincidence that in the last couple of years that even though Steinbreener has thrown tons of $ around they haven't won. The collapse last year against the Sox wasn't because they were a less talented team, it was becasue the Sox wanted it more - had better chemistry. Thats why this year has been good for the Yanks. Because they have had alot of adversity and still battled thru it and (except for sheffield who I hope they drop when his contract is up) have been taking a team approach, not a "me" approach. I don't know if the Yanks can win this year because of their bullpen, but if they do it will be because of grit and heart, noy because of $.

Damn, I picked the wrong year to move here (1993.) HIt by two hurricanes and no op to get to the pahk. TYG for MLB ! Go 'Fins! Well, it comes down to one weekend. 3 (possibly 4 games).

As a REd Sox fan, I am going to offer an objective look at this weekends series.

1. Location: advantage Red Sox. Big Papi and Manny are dangerous in Fenway Pahk.
2. Pitching: I gotta like the Red Sox here for the starting pitching. Mussina is not good anymore, and Wang...well, need I say more? Yanks have a better bull pen although Papalbon is nasty like Rivera but can pitch longer.
3. Hitting: Draw
4. Coaching: Draw
5. Defense: Yanks
6. That special something factor: Draw. Red Sox excorcised demons last year, but the Yanks are still the yanks. Big Papi is big money, A-Rod gets big money.

Red Sox, 2 out of 3. Good pitching wins. Always.
Tie breaker? anyones guess. :-)
