Buttercup  14334    |  Subject: Favorite ski destinationMy favorite so far... Canazei (Val di Fassa), Italy. There is a glacier there called the Marmolada. That mountain rescue thriller movie with Sylvester Stallone was shot at this location. Wide open bowls, gorgeous Italian men of all ages, and fantastic Italian food. What could be better? How about a mid-run bar/cantina where they serve a nice hot toddy known as Il Bombardino - steamed and frothed egg liqueur with a shot of grappa. | Pro 4040 | Subject: RE: Favorite ski destination I've never been to Europe for snowboarding, but I've been to the Banff - Lake Louise area, Fernie (Southeast B.C.) and Snowbird, Utah. Without hesitation, Snowbird is the best. Best steeps, best snow, most snow, best chance of getting powder. Having said that, Fernie is a beautiful mountain, lots of snow, nice challenging terrain, and not nearly as pricey as most places of its calibre. I've been twice. |

I've heard its amazing. I've known far too many people who've come back from Ski trips with torn knee cartilage and broken legs. I don't have knee problems but I'm too clumsy to take up a sport like ski'ing. Maybe snow boarding would be better for my type. |

I was there 7 years ago. All it did was so. Hopefully if I get to make this move to CA I'll be doing some real skiing. |

Alta rocks for some more challenging runs. Crested Butte is cold but has such excellent terrain. The skiing's okay in Breckenridge, but the town is so much fun at night. Hard to pick a favorite. Whistler and Blackcomb are hard to pass up--especially if you stay over in Vancouver for a few days. Bill |

New user 29 Vancouver | Subject: RE: Favorite ski destination Whistler is unbeatable in terms of terrain... some find the snow a little heavy as the coastal mountains are pretty warm and wet (relative to say Colorado) but usually lots of it - last year was an abhorition! Lived there for a while so there may be some bias creeping in... Been all over NA but I've only been to Kitzbuhel in Europe. I'd love to go to La Grave, it is apparently "incroyable"! |

Carry your skis, all your equipment on your back, 3 miles to the base of the bowl. Then climb the headwall, kicking steps into the face that is so steep it's like climbing a ladder against the side of your house. Take one run down, scaring the living begeezus out of yourself. Gather up courage, climb up again, take another run. After a day of this, doing an Ironman will feel like kid stuff. Oh yeah, watch out for avalanches, and whatever you do, DON'T FALL! Make that mistake and you will slide, tumble and crash down a thousand feet, possibly crashing into jagged rocks. We don't need no stinkin' lifts! Total combination of outrageous steeps, miles long groomers, and night life second to none. Love to ski there. Having said that, Alta is the best for snow/terrain combination.
