BT,

You are all invited to my birthday party here in San Diego. It's not just any party, but a triathlon party! There is also a duathlon option for the water wussies.

The distance is 300 yard swim/16 mile bike/3 mile run

or the duathlon is 1.5 mile run/16 mile bike/ 3 mile run

If you are going to be in SD on February 5th, you are more than welcome to join us.

I will try to attatch the flyer (flyer wouldn't attach)

Tom’s 1st Annual Birthday

Triathlon & Duathlon

When: Sunday February 5th (Super Bowl Sunday)

Time: 8 am

Where: Glorietta Bay, Coronado

Triathlon: 300 yard swim / 16 mile bike / 3 mile run

Duathlon: Approx. 1.5 mile run / 16 mile bike / 3 mile run

Everyone is welcome to race. You can do all or parts of the race and relay teams are encouraged to participate. Also, I will need volunteers to help with the swim and for timing.

Awards will be given out 1 deep in each Age Group.

Please indicate which Age Group you are in

  Birthday boy                  Everybody else

Please email your RSVP to [email protected] so I know how much food (and drinks) to bring and how many volunteers we need.

Childcare will also be available, but please let me know the number of kids and their ages.

Unfortunatley I will be spending most of my money on post race beer, so I can't front you the ticket, but I will take lots of pictures.

Happycow is not too bad (for my first wife)

It was my idea but she had to sign off on it first. The only problem is, her birthday is the 20th of February and she might want her own triathlon.

ChuckyFinster - 2006-01-24 2:54 PM Yeah but Superbowl Sunday?

Hey Tom,

I think most of everyone, except maybe Chucky, will be finished before game time.

Sorry I won't be able to make it to California.  I like the idea of doing a tri on my own here in Tennessee to celebrate your birthday remotely.

Post pictures.  I'll do the same.

Chucky, I have a 2pm cutoff, then the sag wagon will come and take you to the sports bar of your choice

TG-

If you have a tri, you should definitely take pictures.

The one sports photographer I know RSVP'd and said he will race it. I thought for sure he would volunteer to take pictures. I might end up with my mom as the photographer (gasp)

BTW,

I put on the flyer that there were two AG categories, "Birthday Boy and Everybody else", just for fun. And wouldn't you know it, I have recieved at least 3 replies from guys pleading to be put in the Birthdayboy AG.

"Can I still be in the Birthday boy division if my birthday is the 4th?"

Triathletes...gotta love em

Crap, you mean there are others that will be there that are in the birthday boy division. I thought I might at least get  second place hardware.  Well, someone has to come in last.  If things look too bad I am doing the run part with a beer.

I was thinking of having a beer and hotdog aid station. I might have to do it now

Tom,

I want to participate via long distance in the Birthday Party but the weather in Tennessee is not cooperating.  I was going to swim at the lake (50 deg water).  I thought that 300 yds of that would be the tough part but the forecast for Sunday is rain mixed with snow and a high of 38 deg.   I will can go for an extra long run in honor of Tom's birthday celebration but the bike and swim might be just ridiculous.  I'm packing gear for everything 'cuz weather forecasts are not reliable but Im not promising a Norris Lake Triathlon this weekend.   The indoor pool is always closed on Sunday in Oak Ridge so that is not an option.

How's the party shaping up in San Diego?  Have a happy birthday regardless.  We will be thinking of you guys on the sunny west coast.

That's too bad about your weather.  Hopefully you can still get in your run

The party is shaping up nicely. The only problem is I haven't raced in so long I am afraid I will be dead last. I'm not really even sure where my wetsuit is. Other than that, things seem to be going good. Happycow is a stud, she did most of the shopping while I was out on my bike ride this morning.

Cool way to celebrate. I love San Diego! Bit of a road trip, though. Have a cold one for me!

Thanks.

I plan on having a few for you!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  This may be an elite double-ironman kind of thing, but I'd wait until after the tri is done and the TV is on before quaffing.  This kind of thinking may be holding back my training.
