Just heard about this on the radio. First thought was that it was something a person could get arrested for.

http://www.meatout.org/

On (or around) March 20 — the first day of spring — thousands of caring people in all 50 US states and around the world will hold informative and educational Meatout events. Events will include colorful 'lifestivals,' street theater, lectures, public dinners, cooking demos, food samplings, leafleting, information tables called 'steakouts,' and a Congressional Reception in Washington, DC.

The occasion is The Great American Meatout, the world's largest and oldest annual grassroots diet education campaign. Every spring, thousands of Meatout supporters educate their communities and ask their friends, families, and neighbors to pledge to "kick the meat habit (at least for a day) and explore a wholesome, nonviolent diet of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains."

Nonviolent diet? Have these people never experienced the shreiks of agony from a carrot being yanked from the ground? The cries of the tomato as it is wrested from the mother bush? The mournful sound of a whole field of wheat being severed?

Plants have feelings too. Caring people should just kick the entire food habit. Period.

Celiacs unite and revolt against this oppression of our rights!  We are obviously being discriminated against!  We must fight the tyranny of a society attempting to promote this poisonous food.  They are fooling thousands, possibly millions of undiagnosed Celiacs into falsely believing that there is no danger in eating this toxic garbage that will kill us all if we do not stand together!

I'll meet you all at Trader Joe's and we'll snack on Lara bars while we discuss the massive protests that we will be organizing.

I'm all for people being vegetarian (I was one for awhile), but I'm not so sure about the trying to push it on other people.  I hope these people will be better than the PETA volunteers who visit campus.  They are not very effective in spreading the message that being vegetarian and vegan can be good.  They only make me want to eat a hamburger in front of them.

I totally agree with you. I'm a vegan and although I agree with PETA on some things on a fundamental level, the way they go about promoting veganism is stupid in my mind. People have to want to make the change on their own. It's fine to provide information if people WANT it but otherwise it is just counterproductive. I feel this way about religion too, I hate it when people try to cram it down my throat.

hahahaha EXACTLY!!!  There's a lot to be said for grains though.  They are afterall the food of champion thoroughbreds.  I just happen to prefer my grains hopped and fermented.

When I was in undergrad, there would be hippie protests all the time in the engineering mall.  A bunch of people protesting meat, or some religious thing, or trying to get people to see the light and be saved join their cult.  There always seemed to be a game of ultimate frisbee that cropped up nearby that usually always progressed into a game of "peg the protestors."

Wow...in Detroit, things work a little differently...

  • The opening day of deer season 3 million...that's million...people go into the woods to take a crack at getting their venison
  • Ted Nugent trains youngsters early as to the appropriate, responsible, and proper way to hunt, and
  • There is a local festival called MEATA (Mankind Eating All the Animals), held annually, to celebrate the heritage of being a carnivore.

Let's just say...it's probably not the first place a vegan lands.  It's just different.  Fire up the grill...I'm making filet AND asparagus

In MT, something like 40% of the citizens have hunting licences. Not 40% of adults males... 40% of every man, woman and child.
