Subject: RE: What's your healthy snack?Hi Sharyn, I used to eat several smaller meals each day, but, while doing more research, I found that I was not allowing my stomach enough time to adequately digest the first meal. If that happens, and I introduced more food into the stomach before the first meal was digested, fermentation would result from the food. Hence, I would feel bogged down instead of energized. As long as I get adequate effective calories morning and afternoon, I never get hungry through the day. What I once thought was hunger (while on five or six meals a day), was really my body telling me that I was dehydrated and needed more water. Sure enough, once I drank water at those times, the "hunger" disappeared. I eat until content, not full and bloated. When a burp arises at the end of my meal (usually after 30 min, while eating slowly, and no water with meals), that's my stomach's signal that I've had enough. If I listen and don't add more food, I feel fine. But, if I add a few more bites, then get up and move, it proves to be too much and I do not feel my best. However, when I need to have something before a long brick, but don't want to be bogged down with a huge amount of food sitting in my stomach, I'll have a couple of Clif bars with almond butter, or a fruit smoothie with rice/pea/hemp seed protein powder and some kind of green food powder an hour before heading out on the bike.
