My brother should also be doing it as a training run for Canada in August. it will be his 6th or 7th time up north. I've been trying to find a mapmyrun profile of the bike course, but there don't seem to be any public ones available. |

Also hoping to have a good run for once at a HIM and to race a lot smarter than I did last year. Love the swim venue there, although it was cold last year, and bike is a fun one. Love Boise too, so always look forward to getting back there. Happy Holidays everyone! |

I found this that seems to be pretty close to Boise 70.3 website. http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/60955388 This is different from the course when I was there in 2009. It looks like a lot of it is the same but a lot is also different.

Extreme Veteran 724 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread popsracer - 2011-12-16 5:56 PM I actually created that route in mapmyride. I followed the directions on the course map to see the profile. The exact start and finish might be off by a bit but it is pretty close. Looks like a pretty good course with a few hills, but nothing too bad. Not to find something similar in Seattle to train on. PeteDin206 - 2011-12-16 7:40 AM Boise will be my first triathlon. Extreme Veteran 724 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread So I was looking over the bike course some more today and figured I'd ask the people who have done this race. Do any of the hills warrant a 28T ring on the cassette? I'm thinking about picking up a 12-25T or 12-26T cassette to tighten up my ratios a bit from my 11-28T. I'm running a compact front. |

Are you sure it is 6 months and 5 days away? I count 165 days (about 5.5 months). |

Most of the course is the same as when I was there in 2009 and according to the map there are really only two climbs both which were there in 2009. The big climb up to the birds of prey is no longer part of the course. The first climb is early in the race after the initial downhill from the top of the dam and a nice fast flat section. You should just be warming up and still very fresh for the first climb. The second climb is a few miles past the airport as you head south up to the plateau. Neither climb is anything to get excited about. I do not recall needing to get out of the saddle for either one. If you are running a compact front, I doubt you would need a 28t. |

Veteran 930 Morgan Hill, California | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread I agree, with a compact, there shouldn't be a need for a 28t. Neither of the climbs is that difficult. |

Anything majorly important I should know (besides don't do it)? I love the Boise area but have never done a race there. The two most impotant things for an HIM are preparation and pacing. First, follow a good plan like the 20 week plan available in the Programs section. If you put in the work consistently you will finish just fine. An HIM (especially your first one) is all about proper pacing. You can use the search function and find quite a bit written about it. Good Luck. |

Anything majorly important I should know (besides don't do it)? I love the Boise area but have never done a race there. I love Boise 70.3. It is my favorite so far (boulder, Utah 1/2 and LV pumpkinman). Last year was my first time at Boise and from what I understand, other years have had weather issues. The only issue (small one) was the water was very very cold - like low 50's. Late snow run-off I guess. I like the bike course and I loved the shaded run course. But most of all was the support. Downtown Boise finish was unbelievable. Everything was very well organized. The later start was nice.... not sure what the plan is this year, but the later start allows you to enjoy a real breakfast at a reasonable hour. I don't think there is anything major as far as the course goes. In regard to racing...... I don't think I can help you there.... I'm still trying to figure it all out myself. Just have fun. See ya there. |

T1 is at the reservoir where the swim takes place. T2 is in downtown Boise. You need to take your bike out to T1 the day before and take a shuttle out to T1 on the day of the race. You can't take your bike on shuttle. You can drive out on day of the race, but parking is limited, and its a hike up from bottom of dam where parking is to top where transition is. Its not a huge deal, but its something to be aware of when thinking about your race day logistics. |

Veteran 109 San Mateo, California | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread It's Day 1 of my 20 week training plan for Boise, and I figured I'd check in here. This will be my first year doing this race, and I picked it because my mom lives in Boise. We drove the bike course when I was visiting at Christmas. It doesn't seem too bad for hills, but tell me - does it get windy out there? Seems pretty exposed for a lot of the route. I'm pretty psyched about the event. Come March I'm going to have to start forcing myself to do some open water swimming in the bay so that I'm acclimated to Lucky Peak's frigid water temps. |

Looks like you and I have the same race schedule...I'm also doing Boise and IMAZ. I grew up in Boise so I know the areas well. Can't wait to go back home and see all my friends and family at the finish... |

New user 219 Bonney Lake | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread Has anyone done the bike ride for Boise on the Computrainer? We have a preloaded course that says it is the 2007 course and I am just seeing how it matches up to the real race. My wife will be doing the ride and it will be her first HIM bike ride so she is a little bit scared. Thanks for the info. |

Veteran 930 Morgan Hill, California | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread If I recall correctly, the bike course is different now from what it was in 2007. At that time, I think it included a climb to the Birds of Prey area. Now, that climb is out. I think the conversations have been that there is less climbing now, but perhaps the course is more susceptible to winds. I did this race last year, and there is not a lot of climbing on the course. We had good weather last year, not too much wind. It is a course that you have to avoid going too hard on, there are a lot of areas where you can push it, and if you're not careful, speaking from experience, one can burn a lot of matches on the bike. |

Regular 789 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread The bike course is not the same as it one in 2007 as it does not go to Birds of Prey. It can get windy out by the airport which the bike goes along on the southside. There are a few hills that are somewhat steep but I wouldn't say super long either. The run is basically pretty flat minus the small inclines/declines when going under the bridges. I am in for it and this is my first half and my second tri ever so will see what happens. |

How about the swim? Is the water nice and clear or a bit dark. I am use to murky water but would not mind a clear lake to. I guess it is an odd question. Most worry about water temp. |

The water is similar to Bonney Lake or I guess thats Lake Tapps as far as clarity goes. Temperature in June is probably similar too. Its all chilly that early in the year.
