Subject: Goal achieved and then some thanks to triathlons

So in December I made the discovery that I had gotten fat.  It wasn't a secret really just something that happened so gradually I was accustomed to my appearance.  That was until someone took a side profile photo of me at a time when I didn't realize it.  Being unprepared I hadn't sucked in my gut, or turned at a 45 degree angle or anything else I used to do subconciously to make myself feel and look better.  There I stood frozen it time, obviously overweight and out of excuses.

I had experienced some success in shaving weight off in preparation for a 1/2 marathon at one time.  But I discovered that I detested the monotony of training for strictly running events.  Therefore I surmised that triathlons would be a good excursion.  So in January I took it on.  I set out with a goal of getting 30 lbs. off and getting down to 220 by the end of June.  Thanks to a refocus on nutrition and amping up my training I reached that goal 2 months ahead of schedule.  So I decided then I would shoot for an even 200 lbs. with fluctuations of + or - 5 lbs.  Well I hit 205 two weeks ago and stalled.  I lost my way a bit on eating right and training for a few weeks because I was traveling, and visitors were coming in etc.  However I zeroed back in over the past couple of weeks and reached a very nice mile stone.

Just wanted to share my success with you all here.  This community has been a big support through encouragement, advice, and a shared attitude.  Much obliged to all of you.  I've got a sprint coming up in two weeks and an Oly later on this year.  I'm aiming to toe the line at IMTX 2014 to make my run at 140.6.  Hope to meet some of ya'll there.

Recognizing Don from the Clyde forums, it is really cool to notice that the success isn't just a number.  Because come on, if you really wanted to drop that last 1.6 lb before posting the pictures, you could have just shaved the 'stache.  That's gotta be at least 2.5 or 3 lbs of lip fur, dude...

Congrats on a HUGE achievement.

Jealous!  I started at 248 in Jan and holding steady at 230...  But I am 6'7".  200 would look a little thin on me.

Thanks again all of you so much.  This is the kind of positive support and encouragement I was talking about.  Not too mention all the advice on anything from transitions to tri-suits.  You're all a great bunch of folks taking in the triathlon neophytes and bringing them along.  Keep it up folks you have no idea how you help so many people.

As for my 'Stache all I can say is that my facial hair is an ever-evolving landscape.  I consider myself an artist.  Some artists work in oils, others bronze, my chosen medium is facial hair.

Nice job! I am in a similar boat. We had a little boy in September and my training almost stopp and I ballooned up to 240. I have started training for a Marathon in October and I hope to be close to 200 by then. I'm already down to 224. Congrats again.
