Should I vote for him because I respect him for his 10:39 Kona finish?

That would probably the most I have ever had in common with a Presidential candidate.

Edit: shoot... I'm not an Ironman... only half of one. So that is half of one thing I have had in common....

It's a shame Johnson, my former Governor, didn't get more support in the beginning when on the Republican ticket. I really think he would have made an excellent candidate.

Because he is not what a republican candidate is supposed to be. That's why he is now the libertarian candidate who I will be voting for.

Right, Republicans are: Pro Life, Against Legalization of Marijuana, Pro Israel, Against Gay Marriage, Against Legal Prostitution.

Libertarians are usually the opposite of those things.

The only thing the two sorta have in common is that neither wants taxation.  Libertarians believe in as little government as possible.  Republicans say they do, but really don't.  Republicans want a very large military and they want the government to keep things they like.

If Libertarians could have no military except for a defense force, no government except for the absolutely essential, and no taxes except for the absolute minimum to pay for the minimal government and minimal military, and no laws except for "Don't Kill, Don't Steal, Don't Rape" they would.

Oh, and Libertarians are in-favor of Free Bananas!

Libertarians believe in as little government as possible.  Republicans say they do, but really don't.

I agree, but here's the question.  A Libertarian has never been President and they have never held a significant voting block in Congress.  Here's the question: assuming one of the two happens (or both), do you think they would actually walk the little government as possible walk?  It seems everyone has ideals, until they have to deal with the reality of Washington.  I would like to think they would, but I'm pretty skeptical.

NO!

Not as long as there are no term limits in Congress and the Senate.  The game's the game and it's because of that there are no limits to how much blood those vampires can suck out of our country.

I'm not a Libertarian.  I'm a Republican.  But I think the lack of competition for congressional seats or senatorial seats is the reason we have the Washington games played with our government by both parties.

I advocate for a 2:1:2 term limit for Congress.  i.e. 2 terms, then you have to take off 1 term, then you can run again for 2 terms.  That way there's competition for those terms.  Senators should have a 1:1:1.  i.e. Term, take one off, run for a term.

No way it'll ever happen though because the vampires have to vote for their own demise...

Here is the thing about term limits... the People of The United States already have them! Yet election after election after election they overwhelmingly choose not to use them. Yet after every election... the ratings of Congress go lower, and all the people complain about term limits... how is that possible?

Funny it was said Republicans are for lower taxes because it is just not true. They say that to buy votes the same way Dems promise free stuff to do the same. It's just a shell game.

The People need to be protected from themselves.

Seriously though, it's a bit too easy to equate term limits with notion that the electorate could just not re-elect them. I agree in principle, but in practice, unfortunately, the powerful political machines hold sway over the electorate and real term limits would go a long way to put an end to that.

The funny thing is people when polled say they hate congress but love their congressman.  Their congressman brings home the bacon so they love him it is the other guy getting the bacon they don't like.

Got it. I really don't know what to think. I do think government is pretty complicated. You don't want some idiot in there taking 4 years just to get up to speed and then leave. I don't really think we need "short term" limits... but ya, life long... no. 10ish years?  30 is just ridiculous.... yet year after year the same guys get in. And I don't buy the argument that the parties have all the power over us.... does not matter to the party if all you are doing is voting party. They don't care who is in there as long as it is a party member. But just changing the person in the seat, and continuing to play the party games, changes nothing.

Here is the thing about term limits... the People of The United States already have them! Yet election after election after election they overwhelmingly choose not to use them. Yet after every election... the ratings of Congress go lower, and all the people complain about term limits... how is that possible?

Is that you Senator McCain???

?

He used to be in-favor of term limits, but said the same thing to a reporter asking about term limits in 2010.

Don't you think that is part of the problem though? Why is the entire governmental process so complicated? Shouldn't it not be important that senator joe schmo doesn't know procedural rule 45G6J767L? If you make the system not as complicated there's an easy fix. 2 term limits, half the states vote in every election so you always have some incumbents that know the rules.
