Subject: The Cosby Show

I just had to post about this...what a great show.  I sat down with my 9 and 6 year olds over the weekend and watched a couple of classic Cosby Show episodes.  Bill didn't have to be crass to be funny.  The show wasn't laden with innuendo for cheap laughs.  It was just a great family sit-com.

Don't get me wrong, I love my crass comedy including Family Guy, Tosh, etc., but how 'bout a fun family sit-com the whole family can watch?

Sincerely,                                                                                                                                              Old Fuddy Duddy

Oh, there's plenty of inuendo in the Cosby show!

But it's definitely more wholesome than most stuff on TV.  I used to love to watch it as a kid.  I keep getting sucked into the episodes on TV land. :D

"Where did you get this done?"

"Cockroach's house."  We were all cracking up.  I absolutely loved this show for the first 3 or 4 years of it...by the time they added the Raven Simone girl to it it had sadly jumped the shark.  Oh well, the first few seasons are amazing...great family tv in my opinion.

I like when Theo wants to move out So Bill gives him a bunch of monopoly money and slowly starts taking it away for things like rent, utilities, etc. Then he says "clothes" and takes some more money and Theo says "I wanna look good" and hands Bill even more money. Then Bill asks him if he wants a girlfriend and Theo says "yes" so Bill takes the rest of the money.

That show added two things to my vocabulary, "Bacon Burger Dog" and "Jammin' on the One".  Haven't seen it in forever, but loved it.

I still remember that one of the most anticipated things about each new season (at least in my house) was seeing what they did with the opening credits.

I love the one where Cliff cuts out the middle of a cake and fills with paper towel and ices over the rest. HA!

He was always talking about hoagies and I never really knew what that was ...

I also loved that Claire actually yelled at her kids - she wasn't June Cleaver but she was still an awesome mom!

When I was a kid, we lived in Central America, before proliferation of satellite tv.  We watched the same 10 episodes of the Cosby Show so much I would translate them to my mexican friends.

I heard one of his early standup routines where he talks about being a Corpsman (or as the President calls them "Corpse Men").  He had stories of amphibious assaults from the Korean War wounded he would treat at the hospital.  He found humor in that.  He found humor in a burial at sea.  He's one of those guys who when the going gets tough you want him around because he'll make your day better.

He's a real treasure.  I think that show did as much to improve race relations as any form of entertainment ever has. And what a great role model as a Dad. He always came-down hard when he needed to, loved his kids no matter what, loved his wife above all.  Great show, great man. I know he's not dead, but why aren't we making a big deal of him before he dies?

Thanks for the Thread, just brought back a lot of good memories.

Yeah, that house was ruled with an iron fist and the kids still got in trouble but somehow it all worked out...WITH both parents gone all day working!  Crazy talk!

True, he was always trying to eat some food he wasn't supposed to have ...

Which reminds me of one off the wall episode where he has a dream that he gives birth to a giant hoagie and a bottle of pop!

And another awesome thing - i loved especially as a kid when they would do the 'lip synch' to Ray Charles (i think it was) on the stairs. I think they did a few of those and it was such fun.
