Subject: Move where?
So I'll rely on the intelligent folks on BT for this. I will admit to leaning left but it is nice to read some of the post and good responses from those that don't agree with me on politics.

I'm reading on Facebook (probably my first mistake) of all the people that don't like that Obama has won are going to move out of the US. Really, where would they move? I admit to joking about moving if Romney were to win and going to Canada or Denmark. That makes at least a little sense since those are more socialist countries (because you know Obama is a socialist). But if I'm not mistaken Obama would probably be considered right wing in many countries.

So, if you are not happy with the election and want to get out of the USA where do you go where people are more in line with your beliefs?

I'm good with the island, gay marriage and weed thing but not so much the gun thing.  Do you allow visitors for the aforementioned weed?  Do we need a special Visa for visiting?

I was thinking the same thing as the OP as I was talking to a Canadian who unknowingly wore a red shirt yesterday thinking he was supporting Obama.

The US is the last remaining "Conservative" bastion on Earth. Even TriRSquaredistan would be liberal in the pure sense of the word (legal pot and gay marriage). The US is only going to move farther left if you look at the electorate that includes more 18-34 year olds voting left than right. And more 55 and ups (who voted right in this election) dying off.

Texans joke about secession, but there's no frontier on earth to run away to in the same way the pilgrims ran to Massachussetts to escape religious persecution. Secession would be the only way to have a conservative country appear on earth.

We'd be able to run to the Middle East but we don't like them because their path to God is not our path to God.

And because Secession is never going to happen, to answer your question there's nowhere to run from liberalism. So I guess we'll have to retreat to our God guns and religion.

Yes a Visa with a very large credit limit...

I find your posting to be quite funny - PA is one of the (demographically) oldest and whitest states as a whole (I think we are second to Florida in terms of older residents, and we are certainly less diverse than them); your last line is what Obama said at the last election (though if you look at the context, in comparison to Romney's "47%" comment, he meant that this means his campaigners needed to work harder to convince them that he was the right choice, not that he was going to write them off a la "I'm not going to worry about those people"). But PA went for Obama by an over 5% margin

But if you look at the county breakdown, the older whites voted heavily for Romney. It was the black Philly vote that drove the election in PA.

That is a simplistic response. Philly has always been Democratic, both black and white. We have one of the largest concentrations of universities in the country and a thriving urban center, all of which are going to encourage liberal voting. My ward is racially diverse but predominately upper middle class (average home price $539,000) and we were 84.59% Obama.

Central/South America?  If your Catholic.

Certain parts of Southeast Asia - not Indonesia, wrong God - not Vietnam or Thailand, too socialist - maybe Cambodia and probably Myanmar, if you can deal with being surrounded by Buddhists.

Republicans who are distraught with a second Obama term may choose to pull-up stakes and move somewhere that better aligns with their strict Republican idielogical requirements. this new land:

  • must have a small government
  • must not impose a public healthcare system on the citizens
  • must not waste money on social welfare programs
  • not interfere with its citizens ability to carry or conceal automatic firearms
  • collect little to no income taxes
  • be a religously conservative place with little tolerance for gays, aethists, social liberals or other who are different

After a quick search I found this Republican Utopia! It fits all the requirements and the weather is wonderfully warm throughout the year. GOP'ers - go ahead and book you plane ticket to sunny Mogadishu, Somalia!  Laughing

What can I say, I'm a simple guy...

Fact is that the best way to describe the electorate in 30 states is that the rural voters who all voted conservative are being governed by people in urban areas who have completely opposite viewpoints on social and fiscal issues. That includes Pennsylvania. Minority votes carried that state according to CNN last night.

You need to get out more. Socially the USA is a hippy-dippy liberal land compared to Saudi Arabia and most of the Arab Middle-East, South Asia (Afghan, India, Paki, Bangla), most of Latin America, etc.  Even China is more socially conservative. Economically the US is virtual commie state compared to some of the SE Asian economies like Hong Kong & Singapore, or most of the Arab economies (UAE, Quatar, etc.)

Thanks for the suggestion, but 11 months (4 in 2004 and 7 in 2006-2007) was plenty of time in the ME for me.

Also the fact that I grew up in Central America helps. And lived in Europe for some time. I think it's safe to say I've gotten around plenty.

That's why I would prefer that the US didn't end up like every other country. As a citizen of a country that piggybacks off of our Defense Spending, I would think you would want a strong US as well.
