BTCOJ -

I'm going to Vegas next weekend with a few girlfriends. We're doing the RNR marathon/ half mary, and we'll be there for 4 days.

I've never been to Vegas --- what kind of clothes should I pack? I was thinking sparkly type tops, jeans, heels, etc. and maybe a couple dresses for the nighttime ... what about during the day? pretty casual? jeans/ tshirts?

Yes, casual is fine in even the best casinos. Wear what you feel like, Vegas is very accommodating that way. Have fun, people either love it or hate it. Personally, it's one of my favorite 3-4 day vacation spots and I don't really gamble.

I haven't looked at the forecast but the temp has a pretty wide swing from night to day. Mid 70's for the high are very possible as well as mid 30's but probably in the 40's for the lows.

The other poster was pretty right on as far as type of wear. Just about anyitng is okay. People watching can provide some real entertainment on the Strip.

Have fun

So casual. You'll see a huge cross-section: t-shirts, old smoker gamblers, trendy young people, very wealthy. The cute tops & jeans will get you very far. Dresses aren't required unless you want to wear them to some of the trendy clubs.

Most places don't care what you wear, they just want your money.

I'd go with comfort when walking the strip & looking at the casinos. Especially after a race.

COMFY SHOES!  inevitably you end up walking alot futhur than you think you will.  The hotels look close together because they are so big.  I own a $30 pair of Margaritaville flip flops, purchased at 2am in Vegas.  I love my cute shoes but try to either go for comfort or pack comfy shoes in my purse for later in the evening.

How do you spend your time, if you don't gamble?  Do you see some of the shows?  What else is there to do???

We are here now. Just wear whats comfortable. Jeans/Ts/running gear during the day. To go to some decent places you should wear something a tad classier. We hit some cool, fun places that werent pretentious and they were chill about the attire.

Good luck racing! I did LV RNR in 09 and enjoyed it mucho.

I rode this morning at 8 am and was freezing.  But then remember anything under 80 and we are cold.  People don't realize how cold the desert can be at night.

Remember the RnR event is a circus.  Don't be too serious and have fun with it.  You will see everything from Elvis, to the run through weddings. and more.

I will be one of the bike support guys so don't knock me over.

See you in the corrals.

Depends on who I am there with. Been going since I was in my early 20's, and have been there easily > 2 dozen times. Key (for me) is to not spend more than 4 days there, but while I'm there there's plenty to do and see. Shows, pool lounging, clubs, world class restaurants (not exaggerating, hard to find a better concentration of fantastic restaurants in such a small area. Foodie paradise of you are willing to spend), museums, shopping, tour the casinos which are always changing and adding things etc. I do gamble some, it's just not the primary thing I do when there.

Some people think as little as possible...  God bless America...

But it's still pretty warm (high 60's).  I keep a light jacket with me for the evenings - maybe a sweatshirt.  To race, I would just stick to shorts and a T-shirt and a sweatshirt you could ditch or give to someone watching after the gun sounds.

LOL!  this is the truth!

Seriously, the best shopping in the world is out there!  I'm a guy and I'm embarassed to admit I basically just throw my scibbies in a suitcase and go.  I buy new clothes when I'm out there.  I wouldn't do this on a guys trip, and basically just do this because my wife is going to drag me to all the shops anyhow.  But, being a girls trip I'm sure there will be some shopping going on...no?

In my experiences out there, the only places you might want to dress up are in the evenings if you do a club.  Everything else is very casual, especially during the day.  In fact, I'm sure you'll be appalled by some of what you see.

I always encounter a gaggle of women dressed in their best cocktail dresses and heels, ready for a night on the town, and I think they look kind of silly.    What were those shoes with the jingle "Looks like a pump, feels like a sneaker."  You need some of those. I am always exhausted there, even walking from one end of a big hotel/casino to another.   I can be very cool at night and I usually bring shawl (i.e. fake pashmina).

Have fun!  I personally think the scenery is the reason to go and love Red Rocks (we bike, but you can hike too) and the Hoover Dam is not to be missed.

Just got back today!

If you are going out to clubs at night, be ready to dress up. A dress would be great.

During the daytime, be comfortable! I made the mistake of not taking any tennis shoes. Walking the strip was hard with my feet hurting. You can be casual during the daytime.

Have fun!

P.S. - it was pretty chilly at night. Make sure you bring a jacket to wear. AND if you are going to clubs, be ready for that jacket to smell like a cigarette.

Women, they don't care about. Now men. Men they care about. Wrong shoes? Wrong pants? Wrong top? Not getting in! - clubs that is.

Unless you are pals with the bouncer or some such thing. Or get there before like 7pm.
