I'm wondering where the excited post with opening night plans laid out in detail is now that the hockey lock out is over?  Guess COJ nation is not suffering from a pent up case of hockey fever!

Glad it's done, looking forward to getting down to a Wild game with the kids.  I wonder how this will affect demand for tickets and arena attendance for the handful of games we're going to get.  I haven't checked online yet, but I wonder when the "schedule" will be out and I can look for and buy tickets to a game.

Winter isn't the same without hockey on TV. A shortened season will make it interesting though and there should still be some good energy left for the playoffs.

on the one hand I'm glad were getting hockey back (missed it) and on the other hand i feel that the fans should boycott the season just to show the league that a lockout is unacceptable!

Sprint season. Not many games to recover if a team starts to slide.

Do they still have a television deal.  The last time these clowns did this 7 years ago, they came back on the Outdoor Life Network after being all over ESPN forever.  I hope we can find a hockey game on TV this time around.  No greater sport, I just wish they'd get this labor contract figured out ahead of time.

My brother in law calls it ice soccer.  The NHL has effed itself with the mainstream.  The hardcore will remain.  The rest of us are thinking, "Whatever"

This.  I don't go to games very often as it is way too expensive in this market, but I do watch on TV.  It would be great if those who do go to games and buy merchandise would just not for this season...

As a die hard hockey fan, I cannot express who disappointed I am with this latest work stoppage. I just hope that there is a clause in the new CBA that says another work stoppage is unacceptable.
Can you imagine if the NBA or NFL did this every 7 years ?
That said .. Lets Go Rangers !

Exactly. With the extreme cost of going to games and the limited availability on TV, it isn't worth trying to follow. Also, basketball has become king. Look,at merchandising for proof.

in Canada it is not limited on TV i can watch every Oilers game that is played and allot of the other games as well. but again a lockout in my opinion is unacceptable and i for one will not be going to any games this year and will also not buy any merchandise!

I'm happy it's over, however, I don't really want my team's first stanley cup to be the asterisk cup. So I can't say I'm too excited for this "season"

Yes, I said first cup. I'm from St. Louis.

I used to like professional sports a lot.  But, after the MLB games taking hours longer than it should per game because of super slow play and they have had shorts seasons; and hockey with its lock outs every 7 years, and etc....   I usually only watch a very limited amount of pro football and the rest is college sports.

I liked hockey and used to watch it on TV.  Haven't watch hockey in at least 5 years, but maybe since the last lock out.

I'm a big Hockey fan, I'm glad it's over, I'll probably watch a few games on TV, but I'm not giving them money this year (Attending a game, buying a hat etc..)  I also wish for their first few games back the arena's would remain empty and the money people would have spent on tickets and stuff be spent at the local businesses that support hockey..`

What's hockey?

The rest of the world calls what we call hockey "ice hockey".  What they call hockey, we call "field hockey".

Anyway, my wife spend yesterday trying to decide which Bruins games to go see, or if we should go to New Jersey or Montreal to watch the closest Wings games.

Growing up in the Detroit area, I hated when Wings games were on ESPN or Fox.  The local broadcast of every other game was fine, and watching CBC was better.

The hockey season didn't start this year?

Guess I just figured the power must have been out in Canada...

Really mixed emotions.  Annoyed that my money has been held hostage (season ticket holder); excited that it's going to start back up; wishing there was a way to send a message to owners and players that this wasn't okay - without taking a bigger financial hit myself.  We attend many games, sell the rest of the tickets to help finance this expensive hobby.  This year will HURT.  Ah, well.....

GO SHARKS!!!

I probably won't watch a single NHL game unless forced to.  I'd much rather pay money to either watch the college teams play or a junior league game.

I'm going to go out on a limb and publicly commit that the Toronto Maple Leafs will lose less than 40 games this season... then again, they have a way making these things happen.

Leafs for the CUP!

The players and the owners certainly didn't do themselves any favours that's for sure. Also the deal they agreed too was on the table a month ago....frustrating!

But I will probably still watch on TV.... This contract is a 10 year deal with an opt out clause after 8... So if in 8-10 years time, these rich A$$holes can come to agreement without a work stoppage, then I  'Might' start buying tickets to games again.

Very mixed on it---love hockey but can't stand this BS.  Glad it's back but agree with the earlier comment of fans boycott!  And the talk of compressed schedule without days off--sounds like bunch of bad hockey--players taking nights off type of thing...  I hate to say it but hockey knows the die-hard fans will still be there and they sure don't seem like they care about anyone else.  That all said I can't afford to take my boys to Caps games because they are expensive BUT at least they are all on TV so they love hockey too---my oldest was jumping for joy that lock-out was over....so C-A-P-S Caps Caps Caps!!!!!
