Total Time = 1h 54m 5s
Overall Rank = 163/555
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 24/58
Pre-race routine:

Didn't really do much. Ate regular breakfast at hotel since it was late start race.
Event warmup:

Did light swim to get used to the water
Swim
  • 11m 12s
  • 660 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had a good swim. I was out of the water in 9:50 but there is a long run into T1 and I also took my wetsuit off on the grass instead of on the rocks in transition. Sighting was good and I stayed fairly straight. Felt very comfortable.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe pushed a little harder.
Transition 1
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

Worked on a fast transition and it helped. The thing that took longest was putting my race belt on but that was minimal.` Took a little more effort than usual to slip feet in shoe while on bike but I was on slight uphill.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 58m 7s
  • 17.3 miles
  • 17.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike portion felt great. Worked the hills just hard enough.

Transition 2
  • 02m 50s
Comments:

The road leading up to T2 was uphill so I should have started getting out of my shoes earlier as I was going to slow to really get out of my shoes and actually had to stop about 100 yards from dismount line.
What would you do differently?:

Know the course better so that I would know when to get out of my shoes
Run
  • 40m 24s
  • 4.3 miles
  • 06m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Should have pushed it a little harder but I was afraid of my leg locking up
What would you do differently?:

Train more for the run and hit the hills a little harder during training.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not knowing the new course enough. A little under trained.

Event comments:

Family had a nightmare day. This race is not set up for spectators. They only got to see me come out of the water and then could not get over to the finish area. Don't bring the family to this one.

Course: 1 mile hill at 16% grade directly out of T2. ABSOLUTELY SUCKED!!! Ran the whole way so I was pretty happy about that. My left hamstring started twinging on the hill climb so I backed off a bit. There was also a very steep downhill on the second mile that also SUCKED!! Not that crazy about the new run course.

Great job, Tim! So sorry to hear about the layout of the course and how un-family friendly it was. Hopefully they will hear your and make the changes for next year.

Nice work Tim, looks like it was an interesting race. That sucks that your family couldn't see you on the course or at the finish, hopefully it is something the organisers change for next year.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.
