Hello everyone, I'm looking for some nice quiet and well maintained roads to ride on this summer. It doesn't matter where, Markham, Oakville, Welland etc...I'm just looking for a nice stretch of road with not a lot of traffic. Any routes you love? Any routes you always go back to? Thanks in advance and hopefully see everyone out riding

What's really popular with cyclists around here is riding Warden north of Elgin Mills Rd. We usually will park at the baseball diamond just off the 404 - tons of other cyclists use this route and parking lot. There's some traffic but in general it's pretty quiet. You can go pretty far. Last summer, training for the full Ironman I would go right up to Lake Simcoe which means a few turns at the top of Warden. there's a convenience store to stop at for water/nutrition refill. You can head back the same way or come back down Kennedy which is very quiet - but it's hillier. The road ends and you can turn back to Warden to get you back to where you started!

I've also done some riding around Caledon and the forks of the Credit - but can't recall the road names and same with outside of Waterloo ...

Wow, thanks Jen! This looks like a great route I'm training for IM MT so the longer the better. I've been couped up on the trainer for so long it will be nice to get outside. That said, I find the trainer is a great place to suffer

The trainer is definitely a good place to suffer - hahah but some of the hot summer days don't feel too much different! hahaha. To do the really long stuff you may have to do a couple of loops of the Kennedy road and go back up to Georgina on Lake Simcoe - but that is the area where I did my longest ride (making it whole 180). But i am sure even on Map my Ride and stuff there are variations on those roads with the people picking the quieter/better paved ones if you don't want to do any loops.

I did IMMT last year and it's a great race - Best of luck in training!

There are a couple of routes we always ride out from Oakville. Both start from River Oaks rec centre on 6 th Line 1. Road out to Belfountain Head north on 6 th , turn East on 10 th Line, through Georgetown outskirts until you get to Winston Churchill. head North on Winston Churchill to Terracotta, road turns into King, continue until you get to Mississauga Rd , turn left and head uphill for 10k until you get to Belfountain - fabulous coffee shop - Higher Ground - which refills water bottles for free and has some yummy treats too! urn around and ride downhill back home! 2. Route to Trail Eatery in Cambellville - North on 6 th Line, west on 15th side road . You can with ride to Moffat and stop at Dars for a butter tart , or turn south to Campbellville. 3. failing all that I can thoroughly recommend riding the Centurion route in Collingwood - it's challenging , but scenic and you can stop in Ravenna or Creemore for refills.

Sorry about the lack of paragraphs - I typed out with paragraphs but the iPad posted it as a squashed up mess. To repeat options are 1. Oakville to Belfountain 2. Oakville to Moffat or extend this to Campbellville 3. Head to Blue Mountain and practice on the Centurion route,

I live in Oakville but often go to north Burlington to start a ride. Starting at Walker's Line and Dundas then going north on W.Line to Britannia, you can put together great routes with paved roads and rolling hills. Easy to create routes of 25 kms anywhere up to 80 kms., all with rolling hills, quiet roads and great scenery. You can stick to rolling hills or find a couple of more serious ones if you want to. Use Mapmyride.com to create some routes or if you want some specific suggestions send me a msg.

Very jealous of you guys down in southern ontario.... all we have here in Timmins is a few bumpy highways, where you get to dodge moose and hold on for dear life as Rock/Lumber/Transport trucks blow by you!

Couldn't help but notice your name, are you stoked for the Movie? Have you heard about the people protesting it? I had no idea about Orson Scott Cards personal philosophies, but now I am torn about it.....it has always been one of my favorite books!

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.
