How old is your oldest race t-shirt?

Master  2287    Calgary, Alberta |  Subject: How old is your oldest race t-shirt?Currently my oldest is from 2000 (Melissas Road Race) when I got back into running. Thinking back I know I had one from 1980 but I must have got rid of it at some point. |

I don't think I got my first technical fabric one until 2003. And it was a unisex, so it didn't fit very well, so I no longer have it. I guess my oldest is probably 2004. |

Now, the oldest is from this year. I do know that I have my number from Junior Olympics Nationals. Don't know, but I might have race numbers from some other races that year too. |

After that I have a couple of my first 5k shirts from 97-98. My first AG placing in a running race I have at my moms, saving it for my race shirt quilt. |

All my race shirts have a special section in the closet, which is beginning to get full. Time to throw out some non training/racing items. Like Comet, I'm planning for a racing quilt. My MIL made one for my nephew with all his High School Jerseys. |

I have no idea what the distance of the race was (I would think 5km). I was about 7. I asked if I could do the race (because my big brother did it with his friend... he was 12). Anyway, for some reason Mum and Dad said yes and left Derek in charge! HAHA!! Yeah, I saw him for about 15 seconds at the beginning of the race. Needless to say, i think I went about 500 meters... had an asthma attack... got picked up by the ambulance and taken to the finish line where mum and dad were waiting. I am sure it seemed like a good idea at the time. It took me 20 years to get over my first road race before I tried another 5 km. : |

I have all of my track, cross country, running races, cycling races and rallies, triathlon, etc. My sister is in the process of making me a quilt. However, she is getting quite mad because I keep bringing her shirts every time I see her. She says, "Would you please stop racing!! You're screwing up my layout!"  And I don't even race that much anymore, just longer races. The t-shirts are kind of like a photo album to me, it's neat to look back at what all I did and the memories associated with it. Half the time, the t-shirts don't get worn anymore, some are pretty ugly and go straight to the quilt pile. I try to only keep about 20 or so short sleeved ones and about 6-7 long sleeved ones in my closet at a time. I definitely have my favorites though that are hard to part with. |

I have a "Hangover Handicap" and "Tony Glaze Memorial Run" circa 1982/1984 (and I was more than 10 years old). Some of my "daily wear" aka "good" T-shirts are more than 10 years old... I still have the shirt and the results buried in a trunk somewhere. I should pull them out. There were no microchips in that race you were just given an overall time. It was an Olympic distance but it wasn't called that back then. |
