Run
Comments: With my legs still recovering from Louisville there was no "racing" to be done today. I decided to run steadily but not TOO easy so that I could join Shannon and Pete with the post race festivities (beer drinking). We started near the back since we waited in line for port-a-potties while everyone else filled the corral. We ended up starting where the 2:25 pace group was I think. After the start we immediately started to weave through the traffic. Pete and Shannon are much faster than I so I hung with them until about mile 2 before slowing down to a wise pace (although was any pace wise 6 days after ones first ironman? I was able to stay at around 8:00 min/mile pace on the flats and 8:30 or so pace on the uphills. There were a couple live bands along the course and the aid stations had plenty of volunteers. I took gatorade at each aid station and also water at a few of them. Conditions were great for running. I started to feel fatigued after mile 10 but the last 3 miles are flat to downhill. The last mile was the toughest. My legs were saying "why in the world are you doing this to us?". Whatever blah blah blah Ironman recovery has been extended, shut up legs! Mile Splits (Garmin had me at 13.2 miles, 8:07 average pace) 1 7:55 /mi 2 7:36 /mi 3 8:02 /mi 4 8:00 /mi 5 8:06 /mi 6 8:33 /mi 7 8:10 /mi 8 7:46 /mi 9 7:50 /mi 10 8:08 /mi 11 8:18 /mi 12 7:56 /mi 13 8:21 /mi 0.2 7:57 /mi What would you do differently?: Not racing and certainly don't have a race coming up so I guess nothing. Post race
Warm down: Found Pete and Shannon at the beer tent, what a surprise. You get ONE beer ticket on your race bib and yet we had at least 8 beers between us. How's that possible? Oh yeah, hang out near the beer tent looking like you're thoroughly enjoying your beer and people that don't drink or don't want a beer ask you if you want theirs, imagine that! What limited your ability to perform faster: The activity the weekend prior, just a hunch. Event comments: Great race as usual. I think there were at least 6,200 runners between the Marathon, Half Marathon, relays and 5K. Last updated: 2016-10-16 12:00 AM

Well, ideally one wouldn't run a half marathon only 6 days after a full Ironman but as many people know, I'm anything but mainstream. A friend of mine offered up his registration since he was injured. The race allows for a transfer if you're willing to pay the $20 transfer fee. So pretty cheap race for me! I'll comp. my friend with some beer food or something eventually.
Woke up at 5, took a wakeup shower, pinned my bib on my race kit which was a K.C. Chiefs T-shirt. Got picked up by Shannon and Pete around 5:45.
No warmup really. We got near the race, parked by Union Station then walked over, maybe 1/2 to 3/4 miles away. It was still dark outside, race start was 7:05 which was still before sunrise. They had a clothes drop which is nice so left that stuff there.
