![]() Well....this will be my first Full, so I will have many questions! Here is my first one. There are many "Iron Distance" training plans spanning anywhere from 12 to 20 weeks out from race day. However, I am 52 weeks out right now. Other than training 8-12 hours per week, I'm unclear what else to do from now until 20 weeks out from the race when a race specific training plan can be started. Is it as simple as swim/bike/run for 10 hours a week? |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a coach so I have never really followed a plan like that. I would suggest trying to build a base and cycle thru training. Right now 10 hours is probably enough. Part of it is what your background is how long have you been doing tris did you run marathons for years etc. we usually have a few weeks of build then a rest week with decreased mileage then build again and gradually the builds get longer as the race approaches. If you can afford a coach I would suggest it's a great investment |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Joining you all for this race next year! It'll be my first real race since Ironman Texas in 2013. For the last 3 years, I've been living overseas as a missionary and living in Nepal now which is where I'll be doing my training for this race. Little bit different of a terrain to train on. Can't wait!! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm in - this will be IM #9 for me(joints willing) but first time at IMFL. I did Gulf Coast Tri six times back in the day, so I'm sort of familiar with what to expect but every race day has its own challenges. Personally I'm hoping for a cold front on race week. Good luck to all with your early 2017 training. C Edited by alltom1 2016-12-10 1:37 AM |

The schedule is out only thru October for Pros and there has been some shuffling. After 5 years in Tucson, this will be the second year in a row back in Florida. |

its actually one of the coldest IMs. The first year I did it (2006) it was 31 on the beach at the swim start and didn't get much warmer. I think only one year it was warm enough I didn't need a jacket and long sleeves. Be prepared for the cold more than the warm. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I cant believe that Registration is still open. My how things change.!!! Wish i could do this race again. It was my first in 2013 and had many highs and lows, but what a spectacular day. Id like to offer some advice as this happened to me, I live in the North East and my runs were on hilly terrain. My legs suffered in Florida because the run is pancake flat. I guess my legs were not use to that. If I do this race again Ill do most of my runs on flat land. Rookie Mistake. |

Florida sold out so quickly in years past. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I can't believe that registration is still open. I have some friends who were on the fence but might join in if the race is still open in, say...July. lol. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was surprised this race stayed open so long as well. I did my first IM last year at IMFL. Woke up the next day feeling fine, but in no rush to walk down and sign up on the spot. Low and behold I signed up in February after checking the website on a whim (which is code for regret that I didn't sign up after race day). Just an FYI for those of you hoping for cold weather...it was really warm and windy last year. I know other years have been cold. Be prepared for anything! Best of luck in your training. |

Exactly. I have done the race 7 times. One year it was warm all the rest on the chilly side. You really need to be prepared for everything. I have worn long sleeved tech shirt and a windbreaker on the run all but the one year it was warm. Its pretty much always windy. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Two weeks! It's getting exciting. The FB page is blowing up. I miss the old BT days when we would have had about 40 pages on this thread. Sorry I didn't check till just now. Good luck and good racing you all! |

I sure do miss those days, too...I'm just not very engaged with FB even though I have an account and belong to the IMFL page... Last long workout is in the bag and I'm more than ready to let the ouchy parts heal up for two weeks. Best of luck to all on race day... C |

![]() | ![]() Has anyone participated in a ironman or half ironman within the past year?? We are conducting a study on the rates of injury in people who train for a triathlon vs a marathon. PLEASE help us as we determine the best way to train effectively and avoid injury by completing this SHORT (5 minute) survey!! https://tourocollege.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_72tTHD12eUc0KnbHifriends, |
